I recently took a trip to western Canada, BC, and got to fly over some large logging tracts owned by the crown (as the locals put it). Wow, talk about huge tracts of clear cut timber, there was almost nothing left in some sections. This is big wood and bigger country, but it did reinforce that what we are doing with animals in NE is more needed that ever. The wood economies of our countries are churning through wood products and some of the harvesting that is taking place is, in my mind, careless and pays little heed to the future of the forests of to the local economies these forests support. We just need to make a bigger dent in the production of wood. Here’s to a good year, better weather, and people doing good work in our forests!!
