Wondering if anyone knows the size of the square hole in the oil plug drain on a McCormick Deering #7. Any quick tips to getting it out? Anything quicker than buying square stock and grinding it until it fits the hole would be a help……

January 10, 2017 at 10:26 am #89910JaredWoodcockParticipantI am not familiar with the plug you are talking about but for non standard squares that are bigger than 1/2 inch, I have had some success by taking my 1/2 inch breaker bar and shimming two sides of it to fit with flat stock steel.
January 10, 2017 at 7:50 pm #89913Donn HewesKeymasterYes, the socket wrench fits fine. I am pretty sure that is 1/2″ drive. Gobs of paint would be about the only thing that could mess that up.
January 10, 2017 at 10:18 pm #89914JayParticipantI have found that sometimes the bottom gets bunged up by running over stones, etc. I have found a 3/8 socket fits. A Dremmel will grind out the corners if needed.
