Still had the tag wired to it and the part # on it Z 6189 H.( which is correct for my Big #4 according to the owners manual ) It measures 12′ 9″ total length. The holes where all in it for the yolk and prop rod, it bolted right on. I thought at first it would be too short but it is not , works great. ———Bill
Bill DoyleParticipantI have 2 spreaders I would sell. 1 is painted and has a poly floor ($1500) The other is not painted with a good steel floor ($850) Both work great. Used one yesterday. But I am in SD. A long haul from NY…???—————-Bill

Bill DoyleParticipantPost pictures if you can. It is always fun to see other peoples projects. What kind of spreader is it ?———-Bill
Bill DoyleParticipantWhat widths and lengths do you need ? I have them in my shop and could ship straps from SD to you I guess.
BillBill DoyleParticipantThanks fellas for helping me with this. Now that you talk about a retro fit, you take all the parts off and yes the beam and moldboard look just like a walking plow, less the handles. Maybe that is what it is. That Ranger sulky sounds interesting too. But yes you’re right , John Deere usually has the JD stamped on all the castings and on top of the beam, even on the walking plows. I’ll have to go for another visit and crawl around on it some more. Hopefully more will chime in here and give their 2 cents worth. Thanks again guys !!
BillBill DoyleParticipantI see you have Paints in your user name….I LIKE Paints
Welcome!!
BillBill DoyleParticipantI planted corn with my JD 99 planter on the 15th of May. I have it set on 36″. It was on 42″ when I rebuilt it a month ago. Riverbound, you said your JD is not adjustable, what model is that ?
BillBill DoyleParticipantKeep in mind that “scrap iron price ” that everyone always talks about, is the price delivered to the scrap yard. That means he has to get a trailer, get a front end loader, load the stuff, chain it down, haul it to the scrap yard, maybe take a day off work, hope he dosn’t have a flat. If you buy a piece from him you will go pick it up. I don’t think the scrap yard is gonna do that ! If you give him scrap price, that is plenty, in my opinion.
BillBill DoyleParticipantI am like J-L in, I also am a mixed power guy. I haul all my manure with horses, We mow some hay (alfalfa) and rake a lot ! I agree. Get your forcart built! You will use it for lots of things. Mine is built out of an old narrowed JD model E manure spreader front axle. It has no brakes but doesn’t seem to bother me. I figure it’s good for the horses to learn to hold a load…???Attached is a picture of us raking in some pretty good hills. Good Luck!
BillBill DoyleParticipantThe #9 mower is sold. It went to a Mule man in Aladdin Wyoming. I still have the John Deere model “K” spreader available. I also have 25 other spreaders I am parting out. Mostly JD but I also have a few New Idea and 1 McCormick Deering model 200 H. I have been shipping parts all over the country. So if you need any parts for your spreader this spring let me know.
BillBill DoyleParticipantYou must have been a good boy this year. Looks like fun!!
BillBill DoyleParticipantYou said there were old bits wraped with wire…??? I’m always looking for old school bits like that for wall hangers. sounds interesting. Wish you weren’t so far ! I guess it wouldn’t cost much to ship some bits.
BillBill DoyleParticipantMarshall, I think that is real common for the chain guards to be missing. Of all the spreaders I have bought, most of them are missing the chain guards. I think when people have trouble or have to adjust a chain, the chain guards come off and never get put back on. I looked at two MD 4a spreaders today, neither one had the chain guards on it .
