I tried a 40 in. when i first setup my#7. I ran a 35 pionere on it next. The 35 will work but the single tree hangs up on the pole when in a turn.
I currently use a 38in. and the team has plenty of room. My team is suffolks 15.2 around 1300 lb. I believe the 38in is a standard size. most oldtymers used for general farm work.

I also had a neckyoke break, not pretty. It was homemade steel pin type. bad design broke in middle. I have since gone to ring type . they have two holding points on the center ring. slip over the tounge .I also installedanti slip off device for the ring. Oh by the way my team survided inspite of my ignorance. I’m glad y’all are good. I also converted my harness to d ring.

My father and I modified a western harness to d riing. We have a team of suffolk cross 15.2 about 1300 lb. What we did was harnesss the horse. Then measure from the hame bolt to the belly band. We took 2 in. from that measurment. because of the large Dring. We used a framing square to get the all important 90 degree angle. lay it on the hame then measure along the line to the belly band. we have had no problems with the harness. The rest of the trace can be added to for your preferd length. Less barton video will help you set up your team.

At the risk of asking a dumb question. Is your evener and neckyoke the same size? also I have a horse that tends to crowd the tounge when turning . tends to try to lay on it. the other horse side steps like a dancer . I have been working fred ( mr lay on tounge) single between shafts alot lately he doesnt lean so much now. Ginger was taught single untill fred got big enought
