I wish the American Farmer would wise up and tell the congress to keep their money and stay out of their business. The farmers and the rest of this country would be so much better off if they would take this stand. The problem is that 10% of the farmers are getting 90% of the money and the other 90% of them are getting pushed out of business. The programs were designed to save the family farm and all its done is destroy it. If the 90% would stand up and tell congress to keep their programs they would be better off and it would put the squeeze on the 10% that is recieving 90% of the money. This goes to show if you want something to fail allow the govt to get involved.

Looks great they turned out well. I used maple but the ash will work just as good. About the grease tubes. My disc is a MD also. I put a reducer in the casting and put a grease zert in the reducer it workes great.

You’re handier than I am! Did you…turn on lathe, auger out the center, then rip into two pieces? I can’t imagine how to bore out the center but maybe I can find an auger that size..wait, i think a spade bit might be just long enough

Thanks guys I won’t give up on it just yet. Most of the wear is on the trailing half of the bushing so I may try to swap the bushings from the left side of the disc with the right and get another season out of them. Unless I can make some. Mcnair doesn’t have. Not sure I can find modern ones that will fit.

Mine were six sided. I cut the blocks then drilled the hole in the middle then split them down the center. It wasnt as hard as it might seem. Hope it works out for you.

I made new wood bushings for my disc out of maple . I had one half of one that was good enough for a pattern . They come in two pieces, not to hard to make either. They made a great difference on the way the disc handled.

This is a tragedy for him and his family and friends. I think your right you can make it on the small farm. The thing that needs to happen is the American farmer big and small and the American people need to tell the federal government to get out of our business. If we are going to ask them to get out of our business we need to ALL stop taking the hand outs (subsidies) (grants) and any other. We built this country on our own lets go back to that. Every time I hear somebody is trying something new the next thing out of their mouth is how the gov. is subsidiesing their project. I dont know if I will ever see this but I hope I do for my children and grandchildren.

Thanks CharlyBonifaz. That cleared that question up. I think I will pass on that although it sounds like you enjoy it. I like to try new things but that recipe has to many ingredients that I dont like to start with. Thanks again I realy enjoy this site and all the things you can learn.

I have butchered a good share of hogs but never heard anything about keeping blood for sausage. Can someone tell me what that is about?
