I always knew I was in good company here, but wow, I too think the two party system has failed us and see much of the national political scene as a farce. I see changes coming down the road as oil becomes to expensive for the common person, I think that is going to be a big wake up call. Many around here think I am crazy for my ways of farming, but I am happy with them and their ability to run on grass and oats.:D
What a beautiful fall, I hope all is well in your homes.
CheersgwpokyParticipantThank you, I typed in CSA and the computer told me I wasn’t used enough words, I’ll check it out.
gwpokyParticipantI am a Farrier here in western WI, I am all for keeping a horse barefoot if the horse can go sound and keep hoof horn growth up as the horn wears. All four of our Belgians, which work most days of the week on our farm, currently go barefoot and are trimmed lightly every six to eight weeks, but we do very little “road work” my wife’s jumper is shod during the show season for traction. You need to be careful using boots on a horse that is in heavy work as rubbing can occur and cause serious issues, they are great if you are going trail riding every once and a while but not necessarily for everyday work. Every horse is different and the environment the work in is different there is no cookie cutter approach weather barefoot or shod.
P.S. I just bought a snow scoop so I may end up shoeing a team this winter, we will see.
gwpokyParticipantI find it funny that this lady was proud to be wearing plastic shoes, does she not know the blood that has been unnecessarily spilled by humans, animals, and the rest of the natural environment to get the oil to make those shoes? Respect and sustainability require a circle of which life and death are a part of, oil and the products derived from it are not part of a circle therefor they are disrespectful and unsustainable.
On another note, the weather is heavenly here, I hope Fall in all its beauty finds you all well.
Cheers
gwpokyParticipantTo homogenize you put the milk though a small ‘hole” at very high pressure which brakes up the larger fat particles so everything is the same size and the fat will not separate out.
gwpokyParticipantAmen, Carl, Amen
gwpokyParticipantHello, I am a farrier here is western WI and I bring the toes back on 99% of the horses I leave bare foot and most of the horses I shoe I set the shoe back just a bit and bevel the toe of the shoe to allow for greater brake over. Do this not only relieves stress on the hoof it relieves it on the shoulders, hips and backs of most horses. The first thing most Vets in this area suggest on lameness above the hoof is to set the toe back to increase brake over. Hope this helps a bit.
gwpokyParticipantJason, that sounds great keep us updated.
Thank You,
gwpokyParticipantWell, winter is coming:eek: might have time to play in the shop with this idea, if you attempt keep us in the loop.
best of luck
gwpokyParticipantThanks Jason for the pic and price, that sounds allot more doable than 11000. What are the working r.p.m’s of this unit?
Thanks
gwpokyParticipantI am also interested in more information on these treadmills I think they could fit in very well for us. I have heard they cost upwards of 11,000 dollars which is out of our budget at the moment. Any information, pics, or videos would be great.
Thank you
GeorgegwpokyParticipantTaylor,
Drop me a line if you get down this way or need some help, I can’t guarantee anything, but allot of the time I can tweak my shoeing schedule. We are raking the first third of hay today hope to get it up this afternoon.
Thank you
George

We farm and I shoe for a living, but it gets slower in the winter so I was wondering if small time logging would be a fit. Outside of feeding and plowing snow I think it would be good for are teams in the winter. I have dragged fire wood around home and find it enjoyable. If anyone is ever in the River Falls/Ellsworth, WI area give me a call I buy lunch in exchange for picking your brain, I am always looking for more ways to make this work:D
My number is 715-821-6775.Thank you all very much,
GeorgeP.S. Anyone going to the Neilsville auction on the 15th of Sept?
gwpokyParticipantGreat discussion, you all need to read “Everything I want to do is Illegal” by Joel Salatin, this was one of my winter reads, very good. Keep selling and working to build these local, nongovernment messed with food systems we will all be better off. We are working of the raw milk issue here in WI none of the laws have anything to do with actual food safety and health facts, it is all about market access. Spring is coming, have a great day.
George
gwpokyParticipantWe own the movie “Fresh” and the movie “Food Inc.” we have shared them with customers as a teaching aid. These are very informative videos. We also have a library of books that we share in hopes that people will become more aware of what they are eating and give them a choice of healthy, unprocessed, non government messed with food.
Thanks for the post.
