Hello,
I am not sure if it is interest, but have you thought about adding pastured chickens to your system? They have sold well for us and are seasonal also a great source of nitrogen. If you are looking into it you should check out Joel Salatin’s book “Pastured Poultry Profits” it is a good read also his book “You Can Farm” my come in handy. We wish you the best, it takes time to get things going, but it is worth it as time goes on.

gwpokyParticipantMatt,
That’s the plow I am looking for, Rod44 said he had seen a team version in southern WI. Shipping would be costly so I would like to find one a little closer, what do they cost by you? How hard do you think it would be to build one?
Thanks
gwpokyParticipantMy wife just read this and said you can look at our web site for pictures and a video of the new team.
Thanks again. Cheers
gwpokyParticipantThanks for all the input from everyone. I ended up going with the team of mares, they work very well together and have done all I will need to do in the past, plus they are mares and can replace themselves if need be. we have fed with them a few times now, I will try to post pictures as soon as I can.
Thank you very much to all and have a safe and Happy New Year

Search snow plow on this site there is a picture of a one horse model and Rod44 says he has seen a team version down in south western WI. It may be called something else here in WI the original post was from the east coast. If you find out anything I would love to know.
Thank you,
GeorgeP.S. where are you in WI? Merry Christmas
gwpokyParticipantSorry it is ‘registered’ and He called today with a team his niece has for sale I am going to go drive them today before I make up my mind. This is a team of mares one is 10 and the other is 15 not sure I like the 15 getting up there but she hasn’t been over worked in her life either so we shall see.
Thanks again
GeorgegwpokyParticipantThank you very much to all of you for the encouraging words, we have decided to purchase this team, I will post pictures when I get them to our farm. This site has been very helpful I hope to meet as many of you as I can in person someday in the future. We are very excited here as we look towards the sustainable future of our farm and yours.
Merry Christmas to all,
George & Rachael Walker
gwpokyParticipantI have run into many people who think we are nuts, as we start down a path that will hopefully give our farm the ability to run on 100% real horse power. Why? economics, and the fact that we get long better with horses than big noisy machines around here. We run a small farm and if I ever wish to reach my goal of farming without outside income horses, in my mind and by my pencil, are the only way to go. Right now things are not that bad, but fuel is “only” $2.78, as we all know that number is only going to go up. Okay I’ll get off my rant, thing is, do what you love, because life is short.
Cheers,
GeorgegwpokyParticipantAnyone with snow plow info would be great, I really like the one Rod44 posted the “dump scraper type”
Thanks again to all

Thank you very much for the discription, it helps, if you are able to post pictures that would be great.
Thanks again

P.S. anyone in western Wisconsin doing loose hay, I would love advice for this wetter climate. Thank you
