What I would like to do is have an electric loader charged with a solar panel, if I can get a few hours of run time that will be all I need.
I have found some good ideas on youtube and “The Farm Show” magazine. The one northern tool has would be nice, but it is larger than I really need and much to expensive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wNFAzGrjGM&context=C35aed0cADOEgsToPDskJ1l5j2uICdMDOjjrIAKgrg

    KC63,

That would be the ticket, I wonder what size electric motor you would need and how many batteries to get it to run for a reasonable amount of time? Thanks for sharing.

Yep, we compost to get the nutrients in a more stable state using carbon ie. wood chips and straw. Has anyone seen a small skid steer converted to electric? If a guy could find one with a blown motor and convert it at least for loading the spreader it would be nice and quiet wouldn’t need it for the heavy work, that the hoses can do with a scrapper. Keep the ideas rolling we’ll get this figured out yet.

Thanks Tim, here are some more details:

I have a arch, should be able to get to most of the trees with it, no scoot will be skidding with the arch to landing, it wil be 2 or 3 logs per tree. The longest skids will be under 1/4 mile. Thanks for the questions, I think this will be a good learning experience in the planning front, my nighbor is in no big hurry and is very supportive of this and everything we have been doing on our farm. Thanks again for your help.

Nice cart, what does it weigh in at? Can you work it with just two or is it just your “Big Tractor”? Very cool.

That is awesome. I think more communities should look into that, I wonder about the economics of the system? I would have to think with the money saved more people could be hire hence more jobs for people rather that machines.
I have to agree with him, I would do it if I could use my horses. Thanks for sharing

Douglas, I am working on a rig that may help with the front end loader Andy is looking for. The team works it just like they do on a buck
rake. right now I am mounting a small forklift boom to it so I can load and unload round bales on a trailer, but the same concept could be used with a loader. Currently I plan on it being electric over hydraulic, charging the batteries with a solar panel when not in use it. For loader work it may need to be a hybrid, I have a small Yanmar diesel I can run on used veggie oil if need be. Winter is approaching, time to play in the shop.

P.S. Have you ever read the Farm Show Magazine? It is full of all kinds of farm born ideas and a few good horse powered ones.

    Cheers.

Thanks for looking, I can’t much credit for most of the site, my wife Rachael did all the work of putting it together and taking most of the pictures. I am just the proof reader, another reason to share it here.

    Thank You.

I think this is needed, we work with some rescues ALL of our lesson horses and all of my wife’s Dressage and Jumping horses where rescues, but the rescue we work with has 90+ horses most of which will never be adopted. I have seen many horses “Put Down” with the use of a barbiturates and if you think this is “Humane” I would question if you have ever seen this done. I think a bolt or bullet properly placed is a much faster and humane choice. I know I am just rambling to he choir, but it was nice to get it out. We need slaughter as an outlet, also Mindful breeding would do great this for the equine industry, but that may be another thread.

    Thank you.
