Hi Tim.. What does your farrier think ?? vets and lameness dont often mix in my experience… Is it at all possible a small piece of the barb has broke off in the knee ?.. might sound daft but if a friend has a metal detector it may be worth giving the leg the once over.. good luck with this and I hope your horse comes on the mend..

Hi Ed .. I am assuming you mean his frog is now the 1st point of contact now that the thickness of the shoes has been removed ?? If so then a quick trim of the frog with the knife and drop the heels and buck the toe back should see him go fine again…

Thats a neat idea Lancek. I remember a guy had one in the SFJ.. what is a “walking beam” though ??. I like the twin wheel idea a lot.

Thanks guys .. The KV bottom is a big improvement and I am sure pulls easier.. I need to tweak the skim coulter.. its not really a skim coulter like the walking plow has but more an extension to the mould board… Will get more fotos as we proceed..

Hi Fellman…. the harness I use is the nylon webbing set from Arron Martin and have been well pleased with it. the collars are from the Coblentz collar shop. Dont be tempted to go for the “split leather” collars.. go for the top grain every time.. I set each horse up with their own harness. Ther is a newish material called “granite” which looks ok.. good luck with it. Im happy that someone else is hitching for farm work in Scotland… thought I was the only one there for a while :D..

Hi Bivol… you should be in charge of something , because you come up with ideas that would help countries.. the busa seems like a small holders dream. Scotland is a wet country and these small cattle would be ideal I think… our cattle are generally large and thus are heavy on the soil..

I have to admit the land I am in is my tractor neighbours.. the land I am plowing for myself is low lying and still way too wet..our land willget potatoes and veg this year and I plan to sow some oats next year… I just had to plow so started his field for him :o.. he will be sowing an arable silage mix of barley/peas for his dairy cows.. The plow came from Ohio and is made by the Pioneer company at Dalton. It has a 14″ Kverneland body on it. The area I am in was a strong dairy area but this is now all but gone. The farmers are caught in a situation where they cant change the field layout because of restrictions.. which is nice for the scenery but not for making farms pay.. Im afraid the “get big or get out” mentality is alive and well in the UK too…

I recon 4 of your Fell’s could manage a plow like that. They never caught on over here in the horse era. The British farmer was afraid of change. Our American cousins led the way with inovations.. though Scots did the initial inventing 😀
