I made an executive decision and asked them to give us Thursday. There were only 2 days left and they were going fast. We can talk more about it tonight. The check is not in the mail yet…
jen judkinsParticipantI like the first one as well, and echo Mark’s remarks about the team and tail. I would at least like to see the logo with a lowercase ‘e’ and ‘t’ to get an idea of whether the nomenclature we use could be maintained without losing the general balance of the logo.

jen judkinsParticipantJohn we meet on the 24th, I believe.
jen judkinsParticipantHaha, Tim, I knew you would come through for us. Thanks you.
However, there are several types of workshops in my original outline that are not addressed in your proposal. We may table them for discussion down the road but why not now when they coals are hot?
jen judkinsParticipantWe already use freeconferencecall.com. Its free to the organization, but not to those who all in. Ed, if it makes it any easier, the call fees are tax deductible, just like your travel would be if you traveled to a meeting.
There are some 1800 toll free conference calls that would cost the organization a few cents a minute…but that is not in the budget. We can experiment with some of them though.
jen judkinsParticipantSame here…This was the biggest bill ever. I always knew I was paying for the call, but this bill was over the top. We need to reconsider how we pay for these calls. I’ll look into it.
jen judkinsParticipantHey, Albert. Here are links to a previous discussions about diet:

And some general Nutrition information:

Enjoy. And congrats on your new draft horse. Will he/she have company? Most (though not all) horses do poorly when living alone.
jen judkinsParticipantThanks Jean and Erika….I think that looks like a great start.

I suggest we offer Sam $200/d, at least for Sat and Sun. He will have a lot more effort and time into it than that in preparation and clean-up by the time he is done.
Oh, I think that is a low ball. For the amount of effort and one on one he will be giving. Besides, he is a hugely busy guy and giving up a weekend like this takes away from his regular day job. I was think more like 500 a day. This is gonna be a much different venue than we have tackled before. I would wait to hear from him what he wants. I asked him to specifically think about this question first.
jen judkinsParticipantI agree too. I hadn’t thought of it quite that way. I assumed we would have problems getting enough experienced teamsters, but it bears considering there may be a lot more interest than I believe. Good points, Ed…that’s why we made you the boss…
jen judkinsParticipantI see you made it in, Albert….that’s great! Welcome to DAPNet.

If this project does happen, are all the horses and teamsters accounted for? It sounds like Brad J. would have his team there, John ,single or team, and Jen, single or team, and Ed, single or team. Would a few of us want to be there, without horses, for moving equipment and loading sleds, etc. ?
I think we agreed we would need a minimum of 2 teams to do haul salvage parts on each side of the ford, and two singles….one to move the load over the ford and one at the salvage site moving beams to the landing. I’m happy to bring Reno as a single. We will definitely need many hands on deck to pull this off. I would imagine we would want two extra people with each team. Has anyone given any thought to how those people would be compensated? Sounds like there are plenty of volunteers on John M.’s side of this who could handle the high line and ford crossing, but I don’t know if those volunteers would be suitable to work with the teamsters directly with their teams.
jen judkinsParticipantMinutes from Decembers meeting:
BOD meeting December 18th
Ed, Jen, Mark, Reva, Erika, Kevin, Brad, Jean
Reva wanted everybody to know that she is expecting the whole budge to be ready in January, not just on the committee levels. It was agreed that the minutes from the last meeting could stay as they are.Financial report – Report was emailed earlier in the day and Reva pointed out the only changes from the last report was the BOD deposits and the winter logging workshop.
Reva thanked Mark for sending out 1006 hand signed letters. She reminded everybody that the committee budgets need to be to her one week prior to our next BOD meeting.
Rural VT is willing to carry us for a little longer, but wants us to get our own 501 C3 status.
Lisa has resigned from the Fin Comm. Brad has made some headway with where to go with grants. He wants to highlight the fact that we are a Regional organization and to highlight the track record of our events. He wants to pursue grants as a means to an end. We want to build our group enough to not need grants and the grant money should be for new and exciting events rather than staffing needs.
We will need some help with grants and should reach out for that help via forum, newsletter, and enews. Brad will send copy to Jen for enews.Communications – Erika is the new chair. Phil Wilson approached Jen about working on our website. He wants to share a new platform that could host the forum, website and web store. He will meet with the Comm Comm group. We are still in the process of vetting him.
Newsletter – Jan 1st deadline for content. Each board member should come up with one advertiser, even if it just for a classified. Newsletter should be mailed by Mid Jan. There are future plans for sponsorships to get more money for the newsletter, website and events.Programs & Events – Erika is the Chair of the committee. Ed talked out the Athol event and Jean went over the numbers. We took in about $1008. That will be split between DAPnet and The Farm School. We had a good turnout. Surveys were mailed and the responses are coming in.
New Events, we are working with the NH Forest Service to remove some old steel rails. Pam wants us to do something at her place in MA. Kevin will talk to Sam Rich about doing the plowing workshop in CT. Ted Russell hopes we can do some events teamed up with GMDHA.
We will base our P&E budget on the Athol event. Reva asked that we move the annual gathering under events and not the finance comm..We do not have a member currently working on APFD. Reva suggested we not hold one this year. P&E will come up with a list of pros and cons of holding the APFD.
With input from Reva, Jen, Ed and Erika it was decided that there will be no APFD in 2012, we will work on having a great one in 2013.There was some concern that NOFA needs to be told we will not be doing an event in conjunction with them. Erica mentioned that on the front page of Natural Farmer NOFA stated that we would not be working with them and they were looking for another group to do something.
MOFGA may have some events we could work with. A workshop may also happen at Green Mtn College with Kenneth, Erika and Herb Trombley. Tim Hupney (sp) would like to hold an event for single horse use.Next meeting, our next meeting will be Jan 8th at 7pm. The Second Sunday of the month. The 4th Wednesday will be the Fin Comm meeting, Reva will follow up with them. P&E meetings are the 3rd Tuesday.
Expenditure limits – Committees can spend up to $250 without letting the BOD know about it. Exec Comm can spend up to $1000 before checking with the board. All agreed.
Jen will make a stick on the forum listing the committees and the chairs.Mission Statements – All committees need to have a mission statement. Reva has one for the Fin Comm, Jen has one for the Comm Comm
Jean gave an update on Rick Fletcher a board member at GMDHA who recently was in the paper for starving his horses. Discussion followed about how we would handle something like that happening in this group. Some were uncomfortable signing anything that stated how they would treat their animals. No solution was found. This discussion will continue via email.
Duties that need to get done:
Find someone to make us our own 501c3
Find someone to write us some grants
every board member needs to find 1 advertiser
all board members should donate for 2011Emails – It was suggested in order to keep emails easier to find all should have in the subject title the name of the committee plus the subject.
