I’d like Jean to weigh in on this as she is the one who would monitor membership. Jean???
jen judkinsParticipantReva, The threads are located on http://www.draftanimalpower.com. You, as a board member have access to a whole section that no one else has access to. But you have to be signed in to see the categories and create a new thread.
You get an email when someone posts in certain sections, because I have set it up to do that. The email simply notifies you that there is a message for you to read. Click on the link, sign in and then you can back out of the thread to the whole forum. Post a new thread by clicking the orange link in whatever section you choose.
Let me know if you need more help.

jen judkinsParticipantI agree that your plan is the fairest, but it is also more time consuming. Lets see if we can find some tracking info that is inexpensive and easy for Jean to use first. If we can make it easy to do, we could do monthly mailing cards to renew membership.

I have been looking behind the scenes of the ‘front page’ and it is, unfortunately set up for content to be entered in html language, which I do not know. So I am waiting for a call back from Ed Rooney (though he has in the past been unhelpful). Jean do you know enough html to help me?

I have been conccentrating on the DAPNet.org website lately and am going to re-do the home page there, but you are absolutely right, that the ‘home’ page here on the DAP forum could be a place where we put a mission statement, purpose, plea for membership and also ‘hot topics’ about what’s going on with the organization.
If you feel up to it, would you work on some copy to start with. I have access to lots of photos we could add as well. Thanks, Ethan.

I agree totally that this organization’s future relies on people caring enough to become members (reminds me, I need to pay my dues, lol). Right now, only a fraction of our DAP forum members are paying DAPNet members. Probably not out of resistance, but there hasn’t been a compelling reason to do it for most…after all the forum is free. Perhaps we need to think about making part of the forum (advertising, sales, events) a ‘members only’ section or at least only members could post there. We could definitely make only sections of the website available to non members, providing some incentive to join DAPNet.
One of the features of membership of DAPNet advertised is free classifieds on DAPNet.org, but since the forum is free, there is no incentive for people to place ads on the other website.
In regard to events. I strongly feel anyone wanting us to endorse a meeting ought to be a member in good standing. There might be levels of membership to reflect the amount of assistance they receive in regard to the event. So someone who wants Jean to help organize their event, would need to have a higher level membership (or perhaps a way to divert money back to the organization via a percentage of fees received, if any). We’ve got a lot of work to do on this. Lets make sure we discuss it further here so it does not become a time consumer at our next conference call.

jen judkinsParticipantPam, Sorry, I guess I haven’t gotten the email notifications right yet. We are triing to set up a meeting for the officers, not the general board. The general BOD meeting will follow the executive committee meeting, though, so stay tuned. Sorry for the confusion.
