My father was camping in a campground probably late 60’s early70’s with a few friends thare was a young newlywed couple on thair honeymoon. They were defanatly new to camping to (Probably from New Jersey) well I guess they were doing what newlyweds do but it was after dark and they had a light on in the tent, and we all know what happens when you leave a light on in a tent at night. When the lovers were done they got a round of applause from the outher campers. The next morning when everyone awoke the newlyweds were gone they left early before anyone in the campground got up.

I used to work for a company removing trees. We would have a tree half down brush all over the place a guy up in the bucket and some one would stop and ask ( What are you doing taking that tree down?) A guy I worked with wouldn’t miss a beat and would say (No someone else took this tree down about a week ago we are trying to put it back together.) I worked with anouther guy that was always cracking us up wth his fast come backs we were working on a transmission highline (powerline) and this guy had to answer the call of nature so he grabbed the toilet paper and headed into the woods. With his pants around his ankles he hears this voice DO YOU HAVE TO DO THAT RIGHT THERE. Aparently thair was a bow hunter up in a tree stand fully camouflaged that he did not see, with out missing a beat he said I DO NOW. The same guy was in a convenience store buying his favorite candy bar a charlston chew,( this guy was a big guy and didn’t need any candy) when a customer in the store said HEY BUDDY DO YOU THINK YOU REALY NEED THAT CANDY BAR? This guy I worked with said( my grandfather lived to be 99.) The customer said by eating charlson chews? No replyed the guy I worked with BY MINDING HIS OWN FU***** BUISNESS!
MatthewParticipantMother Katherine Ive got one you and Mitchmaine might get a kick out of. There are to brothers from Maine and they are lobster fishermen. One of the brothers is married to a girl from New Jersey. One day the mother in law is up from Jersey visiting when they decide to take the boat out and give her a tour of the beautiful Maine coastline. The weather suddenly turns bad and a huge wave knocks the mother in law over board. Every one searches for days and finaly the Coast Guard calls off the search. They have a big service for her and lay a empty caskit to rest. The brothers return to fishing for lobster and one day they pull a pot with something heavy on the line. They pull it up and it is the dead mother in law with 30 lobsters attached to her. They pull the lobsters off and the one brother sais what do we do with her now? The other brother says HELL SET HER AGAIN.
MatthewParticipantThanks for the advice sounds like a split decision some like it some dont.
MatthewParticipantMitch glad to meet you.
His name was Kenny Lane he was from the Hartland/ Saint Albins area in Maine. He moved to Massachusetts in the mid 70s to take over for his uncle mowing the reservior for the city of worchester massachusetts. They did not allow machines so all the mowing around the reservior was done with horses. Kenny made his living with horses he mowed for the city, did logging and firewood, and did sleigh rides and wagon rides. He probably taught a hundred people how to drive horses. He was a wealth of knowladge and is very much missed.

MatthewParticipantThe more posts I read about my initial thread the more I feel I chose the wrong words to decribe these men. Even though I do not know them personaly and have never met them I see their names and faces and what they have acomplished and am shure they did not do it for any one but themselves and familys. I still have a great admiration for these men, what they do how they make a living and the skill and knowladge they possess. We all have mentors and people we look up to no matter how old we are and I am shure even these men have people they look up to. When I was younger I met a old timer from Maine who dropped out of school when he was 15. This man made his living until his death with horses. He never had any money and is clothes, trucks and harness were on borrowed time, but I thought this man walked on water. This old man who walked slow, was frail and in pain from a hard life and athritis was my hero. Thair was no one else I wanted to be like. He taught me so much, I would go to picnics with 100 people and you would find me talking to this old man takeing in his every word. Im shure we can all relate to some one like this at one time in our lives. I should re title this post GREAT MENTORS. Besides you cant pull a horse trailer to good with a limo.
MatthewParticipantThere was a old farmer that lived by me. His barn was without electricity and he milked with a lantern. Someone installed him a row of single lights so he could see better when he milked. When the guy asked him how he liked the lights he said (they are no dam good you still need the lantern to see to screw the light bulb in.) Apparently the old guy thought you just moved the bulb around insted of putting one in each light.
MatthewParticipantCarl I don’t know Elaine personaly but I know about her and the draft horse association (I used to work with her husband.) As for sam Rich is he a big guy that uses a walking plow behind a pair of gray percherons? If that is him you are right he is amazing, if he showes up to a plowing match the best you can hope for is second place. He would be only about 15 minutes from me.
