eric in the mother earth news magazine this month it says mangel beets can grow anywhere from 5 to 20 pounds each…..thats an awesome beet.
minkParticipantanyone notice that neither of those horses even have a bit in their mouths? this is a good picture for the girl in the thread wondering about bits. looks like you have some well behaved horses jac…congrats
minkParticipantthose are some really nice pics. is that a wooden pin holding the fils to the harness? the wheels look like the size of big riding lawn mowers over here do you have a size on them? both the horses in the pics look very solid, and furry i didnt realize it got so cold over there…..mink
minkParticipantpretty slick rod. in use how does the pole and ball setup work out? you think it is as good as a pole bolted on? i realize that it gives the opportunity to use the same pole on your different implements .
minkParticipantprobably the only bedding they wouldnt eat would be sawdust. as to the cattle panels i wouldnt use them id try 2 inch lumber on the side of the stall if your horse wants to kick the wall. i got a fancy door holder …. a marker post from the roadside:p
minkParticipanti keep some hereford beef inside in the winter . they have a 2 inch black iron pipe going across in front about waist high . they concrete they stand on is 5 foot 6 and a gutter behind them thats about 18 inches wide , just a little bit wider than a wide flat shovel. i got a hereford bull id say weights 1300 live and he fits just right , they manure falls in the gutter so he dont lay on it. i use 1 drinking cup for every 2 beef then a 2 pipe divider waist high and knee high . then 2 more beef . each stall for 2 is 6 ft 6 wide
minkParticipantgeorge i like your pics, could i ask how long your scoot is overall and bunk to bunk? i like the 2×6 ‘s you put on to stand on while you ride back empty. thats a good idea in my mind. thanks mink
minkParticipanta question out of curiousity? does the pole not being hooked solid, being suspended on the chains have any bearing on the pole length? seems like the foward and back movement must have to be considered.
minkParticipantyou did a wonderful job ed . now you have to start working:)
minkParticipantmitch:p 20 feet in 2 steps…. you were really scratching ass.
minkParticipantthe doyle scale if i read it properly says a 14 inch diameter x 8 foot has 50 board feet. funny thing is a log 4 inches bigger , say 18 inch diameter doubles the board feet to 98 board feet. what a difference 4 inches makes. guess it makes sense then to think a 1000 board feet is 10 logs 8 foot long and at least 18 inches diameter on the small end , correct?

minkParticipanti like rabbit hunting with my 3 beagles , i like to hear them bark as the rabbits come around in the circle.. more fun than deer hunting.
minkParticipanti keep my grain in a blue plastic barrel. just be sure to use a cover to keep the mice out . i cut a circle out of plywood for the top of mine.
minkParticipanti pasture an old meadow that had grown up with id guess maybe has 200 or more apple trees . i have 6 beef cows and my team of belgians in there and they eat every apple that drops and all they can reach . ive never seen the apples to be a problem. i go up with the 4-wheeler sometimes just to shake a tree for them , its funny to see all them come to be sure they get a treat. mink
