does the height of the pivoting arch relate directly to the lift on the log? very slick idea……mink
minkParticipantmitch here they have the driver and 2 helpers each holding one side of the evener . what i was refering to was the team that could just come around the boat back up and drop the evener with no problem at all. in my mind that shows a guy that hasnt abused his horses. some horses are so high strung that they cant get hooked without a struggle , sometimes 2 or 3 passes are needed as when the horses hear just the slightest clink of metal they just about turn inside out. like you say they have had some awful tune-ups at home……mink
minkParticipantbeen well over a month now and the horse dont crowd me anymore.now im thinking it was her way of trying to intimidate me. i use the same tone carl spoke of and now its almost automatic that when i speak her name she steps over and makes room.. excellent advise ……..mink
minkParticipanti’ve heard some guys say at the horse pulls here in new york that some of the horses know when their at a pull . they say the same horses act completely different when their hooked up to something with a pole.i always had respect for the guy that could bring his team around and hook with no problem as opposed to the ones that took 2 or 3 tries to get hooked…….mink
minkParticipantcarl , i know this isnt horse logging related but do you have any idea what those tractor loads of chips get in vermont or northern new york? mink
minkParticipantwhat day is that going to be on tv carl?
minkParticipantthanks for the replies ,i tried the plier trick and it really seems to work . a little poke in the shoulder and she steps away. hopefully now she will just stop doing it.
minkParticipantcarl when the amish here did my harnesses ,they put them in a wire cage and submerged them in some kind of oil . i dont know how long they were in it as he told me to come back tommorrow afternoon and they were still in the cage but suspended over his vat dripping off. seems like all summer after that every time i used them on the hot sunny days the oil would come to the surface. what a messy thing to handle and keep wiping off, but i guess thats what keeps the leather from rotting…..mink
minkParticipantrod i had the amish oil it this june but i was starting to see some white on it . it cleaned right off with a rag . hanging on the outside wall maybe the cause? i didnt know so i hung it up outside under the lean-to roof, figuring the barn had to much moisture even with the fan. think it might have been the cold outside wall?
minkParticipantit slides easy on the hard packed snow ,i took it about 4 miles today , see several cars and even the town plow. the horses arent bothered at all by the traffic or the wood cutters big chipper……..mink
minkParticipanttrying an attachment, this is a sled i just made…mink
minkParticipantsnow doesnt seem to bother mine as i see quite a spark when i hook the gate in the dark. seems like most problems with electric fencers are ground related . i use smooth wire for my cows and horses and ive noticed that i have alot better luck with the porcelain insulators than the plastic ones…….mink
minkParticipantin the pioneer pics it looks like the pole and the shafts slide the whole sled over ,looks like the only play is up and down. notice the spring set -up on the shafts?
minkParticipantdonn i followed your suggestion on adjusting the snap to get it inline with the hames and shortened the pole to match up snugly . things seem to be going pretty slick right now . thanks for the replys……..mink
minkParticipantdonn if the breast strap is ahead of the lines of the hames , is it possible the tongue is too long ? mink
