Participantoh my oh my what bunk!! I have never use fear or intimidation on any one! NEVER!! I think I get it, your starting a school and need to put yourselves up High!! Saying such to me after helping you is just( ) I have never been so insulted I am very good with horse because I have a very gentle hand and the same goes for my wife and kids and all my friends world wide!! You cant do the thing I do by being the person you say I am, no way, I hope you dont call your self a good christian and then slander me like that, I know you wont post the whole thread so I copied it and passed it around, After this this will be my last thread but not the last that you will hear from me, ijoy your selfs
NeilParticipantAny and all questions that are less than an insult I have answered as fully as any one on this site and I have not attacked any one but in fact I have been pounced on many a time because I can back what I say with what I do, I have yet seen such from the great( whoops) Mentor that sells his Ideas with out such, My views are very much different and they work Very well as you can see in the videos I have posted if this offends you or you wish I would drop of the planet so you can be the (ONE) then to bad! I will give you this though you have mastered the pen and can twist what most say to suit your needs, any one that I have menterd has came away with way more respect for me than anything you can say or do here!

If it’s in the water, you ought to bottle and sell it. I have never known of anyone who was as accomplished as you. Every decision, or choice you make is the right one. Nothing ever goes wrong at your farm, and you have so much experience that you are the best at everything that you do. Truly beyond human capability. Really, bottle that water.
Otherwise, get down off that high ride of yours and contribute at a human level. You obviously feel safe enough to rant, rave, and insult. Now let down your guard and be a little more honest. I am no different that any body else, some days I’m more or less defensive, or aggressive, depending on what I’ve eaten (or whether the stool softener works), but this community must be based on the acceptance of differing views. Although I am willing to accept that your inclination is to be defensive and dismissive, that is clearly not the community experience that the rest of us are working to create.
Some might argue that by confronting you, it is I who is creating the negative environment, because I should be able to see that you are only going to escalate the situation. However, I see my job as overseer of this site as needing to be the one who says what nobody else wants to say.
It is your choice whether you decide to modify your behavior, back up your skill with content, and be willing to advance the discussion in a way that includes other views. If you continue the need to dismiss dissenting views as inadequate and insignificant, then you will have to take full responsibility for the image that you create of yourself.

I think that the big hitch is a must if you plan on being a very productive farmer. I mean that if you want to justify using horses versus a tractor, you need to pull a bigger implement. I don’t know how the fuel prices are in Canada, but in the U.S. they have been sky high until recently. That is one factor that really makes horse power a viable option. Of course you need to have the self desire to use horses also, because it does require a bit more work than driving a tractor. lol
As for the response on cantering horses in harness, I don’t see what the problem is as long as either the teamster or the team are experienced. I think that if you were out some where and saw a bad thunderstorm fast approaching, that it would be nice to be able to get back to the barn very fast. But it would probably be nice to have cantered the horses before hand so that the whole new situation wasn’t to much for them. I was wondering what reasons Mr. Colby has for not cantering horses in harness.

Andrew there are not many insentience’s where you would justify running a horse in harness and for most the very thought of doing so makes he sweat run down there back, but they have had runaways and such which seems to justify there belief, but if you have been trained to train horses right and know they will not bolt the first minute the speed gets over a slow jog then doing so is not so scary, your response time is a lot faster and you need to be aware of your surroundings a lot more(read the road ahead)!
out west were town was a whole day or more away most old timers made time when they could like coming home empty they would walk a 1/2 mile then Canter a 1/2 mile them walk the trot then walk then canter, but you seem to run into more resistance from heavier populated areas were town was a 10 minute drive away,
there are no practical reasons to run a saddle horse ether or horse pulls or putting them in the ring or a driving competition or a race but its done,
So you will have to go on your skill level and that of your horse to decide whats best for you

I could debate or even defend what I do and the skill it takes to do what I do but some one like you will always find fault! Until you can sit in my seat and pull line on 8 10 or 12 then is useless. Sorry I offend you with the truth and pointed out holes in your harness , but life is full of B,s ! I have run in to your type my whole life and when I started to farm with big hitches your type came out in spades, You cant do that is to dangerous or to far above your skill but I still did it! your inability to see value in what I do is your shortcoming not mine, If your so sure that Your right get your self up here and set down beside me as I fan 20 or so then we will talk about how wonderful conservative is!! Personal condemnation of character is something I have endured a lot on this site and some buy you, I have answered all Questions with great care but when there questions, when there not then so be it, kind of like ( They would have put a stop to than) just shows the kind of character that would make that statement, and there is no point in worrying about them,
What some call ( pushing the envelope) we call kindergarten, we understand the complexity’s and talent it takes to do what I do(there is only so much one can get out of skidding a log with one or two) and any one that works with me gets it real quick, were some one like you see’s a showboat others with a open mind see a skill they would like to obtain!!
I would have quit posting on this site a long time ago if it were not for the emails I get for info that they tryed to get on here and were shot down and the ones that really understand horsemanship and injoy what I do!Injoy Carl

ParticipantBefore you cut the pole off put your double tree on top of the pole and turn it all the way to both sidea and move the double tree ahead on the pole untill it cant catch on the wheels that is your first hole then the next is 9’6″ for the neckyoke or if there bigger go 10′
