rdgfrmParticipantNice interview, it is unforunate that so much of our society have no connection to the food that they eat. There is so much more than they realize, just being able to touch and smell it before it makes it to the plate makes a big difference to an individual.
rdgfrmParticipantThankyou, I had recieved some and they looked bogus.
rdgfrmParticipantThe quickest would be to borrow a tractor if you have a neighbor with one close by. It would also help give you an idea as to how much power you need if you decide to buy a tractor. I have an IHC 28 inch that we run with a 50hp tractor and we can work the tractor hard if we load the thresher up. As far as using pto you could build a metal frame and mount a shaft with a car wheel hub on one side and attatch the pto shaft to the other side. Then bolt on a car rim and tire and run the belt off of the tire. You would have do some math as to what size of wheel and tire to run the thresher the right speed with desired engine speed. It takes a little patience to line it up and stake it to the ground but one advantage to this is you can leave the belt attached to the thresher and just unhook the pto from the tractor if you need the tractor for something else. Another version would be to mount the frame on a 3 point hitch and keep everything on the tractor. rdgfrm

rdgfrmParticipantA buyers guide of hard to find shops and what they offer is a great idea. Hopefully someone or group will have the time to assemble such a list. For those of us that are far away it would certianly expand our options. rdgfrm
rdgfrmParticipantHi all, this dissucion seems to come around every so often .(training) There are as many different aproaches to training horses as there are people trying to do it. What many people buy into is the fact that horses can only be trained certian ways. I admit that there are extremes, from the way my grandfather did it to some to day that even after months and years can’t use there horses the way they want. The relationship that we have with our horses comes about because of what we want not because of what the horse wants as has been mentioned, if the horse had his way instinct would rule. We all continously are learning along with the horses we are training. I will not train or teach the way that I did 20 years ago or even yesterday because I will have experinced something today that will change how I think. Those that have lots of experience I think will make smaller changes , those that are new or green will make larger changes in how they do things. The thing to remember is to try and accomplish the task as safe as possibe for all involved. rdgfrm
