Touching on what Carl was saying; I, too, like the thread(s) being like this – it makes sense, to me, and is easier to follow along and pull it all together in my head. If parts are moved into separate threads, I lose track, bouncing back and forth…or if I miss that there’s a divergent thread, I miss a lot of the complete picture. *Just my view.*
On the main subject: while I was in prison, I was able to buy a single copy of RH. I still remember the cover photo: It was a guy coming down a steep road, with a 4-up of black Percheron mules, pulling 2 wagon loads of Canadian poplar firewood logs in a string behind his camp/covered wagon. It mentioned that the back wheels were chained to keep from turning, providing a brake, of sorts. I don’t know if that really fits what you all are doing, but this reminded me of that photo, and I thought it might be of interest.

Wow, that tool does not look burly enough for regular use with animals. I have a go-devil I built, which I mostly use with a single horse for large single logs, and it is locust and steel – heavy and durable. When built right, a go-devil is a super tool.

I, for one, would like to see photos of it!

Yes, I am…and now its getting worse. I was just reading Carl’s thread on the mixed-power horse/forwarder use, and after reading only 2 responses, I went to cross-reference in another thread, and was no longer logged in. I’m wondering if there’s some sort of ‘idle’ thing going on? What I mean is, on some sites, if there’s no activity for x amount of time, it logs you off for security reasons (like at your bank account), and if there is, then it’s gone bonkers? Makes it very difficult/irritating to read one thread and then lose track of which new postings you’ve read that day…when I log back in, it loses that, and shows (since I lasted logged in 5 minutes ago) that there are no new postings since my last visit.

Yeah, there’s good level spots for “rough camping”. I’ve got a propane grill and a good camp stove, plenty of firewood will be on hand…and there’s Hoot’s Cafe and Mac’s ‘Bar and Dinner Club’ if we can’t handle our own cooking. I’ve been used to camping/working in the wildernesses this time of yeat for the last 4, so my idea of “rough camping” doesn’t include the port-a-potty 100 ft. away…that’s down-right luxurious!
And I’m thinking that no matter what, it WILL be fun!! –> How could it not be, with all of you being there? I’m really looking forward to you all being here!

Geoff – At the same turnoff for Hammer Creek (one of my gardens is near Hammer Creek, but that’s not the one), then cross the bridge, but turn left and follow back around for about a mile. There’s a streetview photo on googlemap of the Hammer Creek turnoff from Hwy 95. See where your map shows to cross the river and then curves to the right? turn left, instead. Your map doesn’t show the road, but Deer Creek road is there. Where your map says Old US Hwy 95, the “H” in Hwy is directly across the river from the site.

Right after you turn off of hwy 95 onto old 95, you can see me flags.

right after bridge takes you to Hammer Creek. From hwy 95, there’ll be signs/balloons.

What do you need to know, so I can provide the details? That Friday will be an excellent time to show up! I’ll have firewood available. Sorry, but for me, the only music I can play is loud rock music on my truck stereo! But there’s no close neighbors, so bring your guitar! I’ve got a spool of electric wire and we can hook it into my batter-powered charger I use for me donks, for those that want a little room for their critters. I’ve also got some welded-wire cattle panels, too. Plenty of places to camp on the 7 acres, as well as right next door on the BLM land, there’s room for several trailers, and has a port-a-potty. Hoot’s Cafe/Motel has showers for $3, and propane. I’ve got my hay stored under the old mill shed, and if anybody runs short, they’re welcome to have some. We can use that for cover, too, if it rains. River is right there, and I’ve got 2 trails over the bank for watering, as well as a 100 gallon trough and a pump w/ firehose. There’s motels and rv campgrounds close by – let me know if you need contact info or help getting a reservation. Hunting season kicks off that following Monday, so if anyone wants to stay at a motel/rv site, probably ought to book it in advance. But there’s room for probably 40 trailers scattered in spots on the 7 acres. There’s about 4 or 5 small sandy beaches there, for swimming or whatever – it’s usually still pretty warm then, but who can tell, huh?
Anyone need directions? Anything specific I left out, ask away!
