Since we all have decided to be agreeable….I concur with Kevin. I was a bit worried, because I think Wednesdays are Jen’s day to operate on her patients! But, it seems all is good now and her patients will not wake without an ear, nose or throat!:D:D:D

The information that you received recently is correct. Homeowners (Farm) policies excluded any business exposures. There are certain business exposures you could endorse onto the Co-op Farm Pac….such as hay rides, horse boarding, riding/driving lessons, etc…The rate for the endorsement is based on your gross receipts.

Unfortunately, most companies do not like to write logging exposures. I am not really sure why, because I have written coverage for about 8-10 different loggers and NO ONE has ever had a liability claim in 17 years. My husband has had a long time logging liability policy with Peerless for $1 million of liability coverage and it cost $500/year. Your Co-op agent won’t be able to write a Peerless policy for you. The Co-op regulates the agents where and who you can write business. A surplus lines quote will run you about $575/year for $300,000 of liability coverage.

Don’t blame your agent for what the Co-op won’t cover. I cannot advise you on what Farm Family will and will not write. It maybe worth a call to a local Farm Family Agent….Just make sure you are getting an agent that has a bit of farming knowledge. Unfortunately, some are book smart, common sense dumb, and don’t know a heifer from a bull or what a mower is versus a manure spreader!

Stepping off my insurance box now:rolleyes:…let me know if you have any further questions.

I have a nylon D-ring harness. The light weight works well for me, since I am solo 90% of the time I use the horses. I started with leather harnesses and lines and the harness was too heavy for me to handle. The other big benefit for me is that I pressure wash the nylon harness/bridles to clean it, and hang it to dry. I have beta lines. You can purchase the nylon harness and beta lines at Meaders Supply. http://www.meadersupply.com or 1-800-4HORSES.

Taylor…My husband tends to look at the glass half empty. I try to counter balance and look at it full. When he was injured all he could think about is that he wouldn’t have any income until he got back into the woods. I felt that was the least of my worries, my husband was still alive and my kids still had a father. That cannot be replaced!

My Mom reminds me….”You don’t have to look very far to find someone that has it worse then you.”

The only thing Jake wanted for this birthday in August was a “real logger helmet like Daddy.” Just when you want to set them on the side of the road with a Free Sign…they do or say something warms your heart and that my friend is something that no money could ever buy. 😮

Hang in there unfortunately we are all in the same boat, let’s just hope it doesn’t sink!

Hang in there Taylor. This is easier said then done in this economic times and then adding health issues on top of it. My husband sustained an injury from a logging accident a month ago. Which means no income from him period, for a month. We thought of selling some of the equipment, but everything is paid for except the log truck. If he sold some equipment, it would be more expensive for us in the long run to replace what was sold. He takes really good care of all his equipment, so could be find something half way decent again? So, we are trying to hold on to everything, because he will be going back into the woods. Maybe you could refinance the balance you owe to lower the payments or spread them out. Just look into every avenue before you make a final leap.

Finally, congrats on the up coming arrival of another child. Three children in four years…you and your wife are a brave pair! My three year old boy is like a human wrecking ball.

I am pretty sure my phone was in working order all weekend. So, since I did not receive a call saying I was the lucky winner….can you tell us where your wonderful timber frame is heading?

We just sold our last three highland bull calves this weekend. Not registered, but pasture raised, grass fed, and newly weaned for $300/each.

We castrate our highland cattle the first week in November. I choose to have the vet do the surgical method of castration. I would highly recommend waiting to make sure fly season is well over.

I purchase my seedlings at Agway, a feed store in Middlebury, Vt. The same place I purchase my seedlings every year. I am 99.9% I have the late blight, from what I have been reading. Unfortunately, several people in our small town have have had the same blight. I will definitely move my tomato plot next year and mulch.

If anyone has anyother suggestions for next year, I would love to hear them.

Our weather in Vermont has been WET WET WET. We may get one day of solid sunshine but hardly two in a row. I feel that my plants just never received a chance to dry out. The blight not only effects the plants but ruins the fruit also. So I had no choice then to pull all the plants. I am just worried about future crops…..
