I don’t know a lot but I do know if ironwood is dry it is very hard to work with. I have tried to drill some dry ironwood before and gave up. Good luck. If you could work with it you probably wouldn’t ever need another handle again

Thanks for the welcome. I have already talked to Jason a bit and thanks a bunch for the advice and information. I attended one of your lectures at the 08 animal powered field days Carl. My wife and I enjoy the event and we went this last year as well but were short of time so couldn’t stay to long. I am always excited to see whats there and talk to people about this and that. I talked a bit to Ray Ludwig about oxen, He is a very nice guy! I have never been to a horse logging job before and would be interested to see how you set up. I pulled a little wood with my horses at the farm where I keep them but haven’t got a job with them yet. I an still trying to get all my ducks in a row, insurance, and equipment. I have been helping a friend that has a skidder to get some bills paid but I can’t wait to get going!! Thanks again you guys it is refreshing to find some good people to talk to!!!:)

I believe that they definitely have there place. If you have something to big to mill on a band mill they are the way to go. Try procut portable chainsaw mills on your internet browser and see what they have to offer. I am ordering from them in a few weeks. Their product looks really good and you can build it yourself. They are like a band mill but the saw and bar, chain are mounted to a carriage and you run it like a band mill. I agree that the woodmizers are way out there in price. Goodluck and happy hunting

I believe that in this day and age we all need to be as diversified as possible!! In the area I live in I can think of about 14 loggers, 1 other besides myself that says he logs with horses but thats another story. I am not new to the logging world but am new to the horse side of logging, I have been logging with different crews for years but am tired of guys that think that bigger is better and cut it all attitudes! My horses and I are both new to this experience but it is a very fun and rewarding experience as well. I also agree that if you are diversified enough that it doesn’t matter what the worst of the worst first you are cutting you can make money. You just have to use your head and work at it!! Thanks for listening, thats my rant
