I’m Lisa, and my husband Frank and I have a very small farm in southwest New Hampshire. We have a pair of Percherons who we want to log with. We’ve had them for about five months, and have only harnessed them up a couple of times. We really don’t know what we are doing, to be honest, and my mare had a filly in July, which just makes everything that much more complex.

We have New England harnesses for them, finally. We got western ones by mistake and now have that straightened out. I took a workshop with the Baileys in Brattleboro this summer, which was awesome. But we really need help with our actual horses. They were used for logging and plowing before we got them, so theoretically, they know what they are doing. I wish there was someone around here who would like to help us learn, maybe in exchange for using them themselves? Or to barter for using our sawmill?

We need to clear a bazillion acres of woods. We have sheep, and no where near enough pasture for them, nor for the horses.

I have many photos of our place, but the horses are here:

    Prince and Pearl and Polly.

We have 20 Icelandic sheep, just put into breeding pens this week. We have two Tamworth gilts, just bred to a boar this fall. We have about 30 Icelandic chickens, who aren’t laying at all right now, darn it. (At least they are pretty, but having to buy eggs again while still feeding them is less than fun!)

So hi! I’m looking forward to getting involved with other people using animal power on their farms.

    Lisa,

I can offer an invitation of sorts. If you were interested in coming here, to our farm, at some point this coming season, I could offer you and your animals plenty to do–you could try out plowing, haying, or grain harvesting if you had a mind, alongside our horses. We have accommodations for both people and extra horses. Might be fun if you had the time.

Thanks for the offer. It sounds like a good deal for all concerned if we can work out the logistics.

    Frank
