On the RH program last week they featured Dris Abraham and RX Acres – he has a ground driven baler that was fabled by someone else. Didn’t catch the name but Dris sounded very happy with it. Wish he had video of it in action. Anyone know who’s doing the retro fits on these balers or have experience with them?

Hey Geoff , Kenny Russel has one of these conversions and he puts up around 1500 bales a year and he thinks its a great retro fit kit. I think the name of the man producing these kits was Brubaker or something like that and at the time he was selling them for about £480.. about $600 ??.. Kenny advertises in SFJ so might be worth a call.. John

Wish he had hay to bale the day I visited and made the show but he had none that day. I don’t know if Dris visits this site, but if you ask him about his baler on the Front Porch he will tell you about it. Here is a link to a front porch thread that has a 2009 post of his at the bottom where he tells who made his baler conversion and gives a phone number.

I didn’t see the show last week, but I did see a ground drive baler a couple years ago when we were at Historic Prophetstown. It was a John Deere but I don’t remember what model. It looked like someone did a real nice job converting it.

Thanks John and Joe – I’ll check into those leads.

I saw one in Lynn’s Haying book that had expanded metal for the “tire” on the bull wheel (it was at HPD one year). I thought that was sort of a one time thing since I never heard more about the GD balers. The one at Dris’ place had a rubber-tired bull wheel – probably just an Amish/English thing.

Anyone have some negatives to report on these units?
