Yesterday we had a “private oxenworkshop” at a farm, about 70 km away from my home. the farmer has a 2 year old steer (limousin/holstein cross) which is in training for logging. because the steer is dehorned the farmer used the German three-pad-collar. but while pulling the steer cracked already two of these.
because I am the neck yoke specialist in Germany (in the land of the blinds the one-eyed man is the king 😉 ) I offered him a visit for trying logging with my single neck yoke.
it is a 8” yoke, but I can also use 6” and 9” bows in it (Rattan bows).
the 8” bow seemed to be a little bit to small (hand test between neck and bow). so we tried the 9” bow which fitted (my opinion)
because the bows pointed to the ox’ head (as showed in the first pic) we set it a little bit higher. and higher until it seemed to work correctly. the yoke set verticulary on the neck of the ox.
the ox pulled and didn’t cough. he holds his head in a (for my opinion correct way, not to deep an not to high). but on the pics the bow seems to sit very high.
My request for you is to keep an eye on the pics and to say whether it is correct or wrong.
Thank youWolfgang (Fabian R.I.P)
