I found this rake on craigslist and the price is right for me. They said that it is ground drive when I asked. I have only ever used side delivery rakes and roll bar style tedder. Can I use this with my haflinger team behind a forecart?

Couldn’t figure out how to post just the picture so here is the link. So please don’t go and buy it from under me!

July 8, 2012 at 4:31 pm #74446KyleParticipantTurns out to be a regular pin hitch. There are 2 tires on the other side of the wheels. One at each end. And a trailer jack at the hitch end.
It’s 15′ long he said. And 7′ wideJuly 8, 2012 at 5:11 pm #74441Donn HewesKeymasterI think that looks like a great rake. They rake very clean I hear. Nice size. Donn

Now I just need to find a trailer long enough to haul it
Does this function as rake and Tedder or would I still need 2 separate implementsJuly 8, 2012 at 11:28 pm #74443minkParticipantthats a pin -wheel hay rake all it does is rake .if you have the right weather and 3 days or so you can get by without a tedder for now.
July 9, 2012 at 12:17 am #74448KyleParticipantThanks. I’ll just get a Tedder too. Just wanted to be sure as My experience with the wheel rakes is limited as I said before. How do they compare to a side delivery? It looks like it still lays it in a windrow like a side delivery
July 9, 2012 at 12:55 am #74440J-LParticipantI see that now, first glance looked like a 3 point rig. Bet it would work great. I have used the tractor mounted 3 wheel rake and got along okay. This should too.
July 9, 2012 at 4:18 am #74442karl t pfisterParticipantthe disadvantage of a wheel rake is that they tend to rope the hay, not allowing as much air movement as even the rollerbar rakes, but given enough time and good weather they do make hay! wonderfully simple and a great price to boot ! Also don’t set them so low that you’re raking the ground.
July 9, 2012 at 2:14 pm #74445bdcastoParticipantThis type of wheel rake is all I’ve ever used (mine in a 3 point attachment). Will not work as tedder but angle is usually adjustable so can control how heavy a windrow you make and can act as a windrow inverter for extra drying if necessary. Main disadvantage to me is that the rake only does straight or mild curves. Any severe turn results in a mess so your raking pattern is different than with other styles. You can start in the middle of the field and work your way out in straight line windrows or start from one side and do down and back double windrows. Resist the temptation to “clean up” perimeter with the rake as raking across finished windrows tends to pile the hay up in big balls.

It is a vicon brand. I don’t have an exact date but i think it is from the 1950s. I can find almost no info on it or adjusting though - AuthorPosts
