I have a john deere no4 big that I want to cut the cutter bar down to 3.5-4 ft. Any suggestions or tips before I start? or Can I buy a short bar for it?

Really easy, I cut the length off the end and used the cut off end as a template to cut and drill the shortened bar to fit the shoe.Just pay attention to the location of the last rock guard in relation to the outer shoe when you make your marks to cut. I had to cut a little off the trailing edge of the bar to allow the show to fit.

You’d think that it would, but it doesn’t seem to make that much difference in ease of pulling for my ponies. I think tongue weight is a bigger deal for small horses, so I’m planning on adding a tongue truck to make it easier on them.
But you’re right, the cutting down is easy. Growing back is harder though, Lol.
