February 25, 2012 at 9:29 pm #72307njfarmerParticipantDoes anyone subscribe to the Small Farm Journal? I subscribe to Rural Heritage and think its a great magazine. Plus it comes out every two months instead of quarterly. I was just looking for another one to read and wasnt sure which one is better Small Farm Journal or the Draft Horse Journal? Thanks
February 25, 2012 at 10:32 pm #72305gwpokyParticipantAs far as agriculture information I would go with the Small farmers Journal, The Draft Horse Journal is more a Draft Horse industry publication and focuses allot on showing horses, it dose has a yearly Work Horse edition that is pretty cool. I get both, but find the SFJ the most useful.

SFJ is the best all around journal for the “doers”. DHJ, in my opinion, has become a breeder’s pub and highlights many of the large shows. Not much work oriented articles although they just had a nice write up on Taylor J’s operation. RH falls more in line with SFJ though not nearly as technical but high in entertainment value and is an all around enjoyable read. Just depends on what type of information and style of pub you prefer.
February 25, 2012 at 10:36 pm #72302bradleyModeratorThe Small Farmer’s Journal is my favorite, it’s like Christmas when it comes in the mail. There is such good info in there and I like the way it’s layed out. Whenever I see the Draft Horse Journal, it seems like it is geared more toward the show horses.

He/they understand the importance of both fighting “the system” and building the necessary alternatives. A true radical — in the best sense of the very maligned word. The Draft Horse Journal seems like glossy horse porn to me. You know, where you pretend to be reading the articles…..
February 26, 2012 at 12:16 am #72309ChrisBParticipantThanks for the info. I subscribe to Rural Heritage as well. I have been thinking of getting the Small Farmers Journal, you guys are going to make me want it more lol
Thanks,
ChrisFebruary 26, 2012 at 12:29 am #72308njfarmerParticipantHahaha glossy horse porn. You just made my night Michael. haha Im still laughing. Well it seems like an overwhelming favorite is clear. Thanks

February 26, 2012 at 3:17 am #72303Big HorsesParticipantDefinitely SFJ!! Like has been said, DHJ is 90%+ about show horses. When Maurice Telleen started it, it was a whole different mag… When the SFJ gets here, it’s hard to get much done for a few hours! :p
