Google Introduces Renewable Energy Plan – Eliminate Coal

Google uses an untold amount of energy running an estimated half million servers in hundreds of data centers around the world. As such they have been keen for many years to develop their data centers in energy-sensitive ways and to reduce the energy needed for running the locations.

Now the search engine giant has released plans to use solar thermal, geothermal and wind energy resources to produce electricity at a global scale that is cheaper than burning coal.

Hats off to Google for this!

It is impressive to see a corporate leader make a commitment like this. You wonder if moves like this aren’t to address an image problem, but I don’t think that is the case with Google. I keep reading about cheap solar panel technology that is coming; hopefully this will start a trend.
