    Hello folks,

I am Larry Stone. I found this site in my quest for knowledge on the care and training of my horses. I’ve owned Standardbreds with my dad on the track years ago. I have always been interested in Railroads, and fascinated by the use of draft animals, particularly horses in logging operations. It is amazing how well the two complemented each other in a much earlier time. Anyhow, I started with a Belgian yearling colt just over two years ago. Since then he has been gelded and I have teamed him up with a 2yo filly. We have have been working them in the woods and on the roads single and double. We’re still just working small logs and bundles of stud trees for my own firewood but I am satisfied with the progress they have made. I have been holding my own with them but as you know there is much to learn that time and experience cannot be substituted for. Thus my visits to this site and others is to learn and pick up what I can, but I don’t think I’m able to contribute much for now. At any rate I look forward to being involved with this group and thank you for your help to this point and wish you the best in the future.

    Thanks again,
    LStone

Welcome, Larry. As the owner of a 2 yo Belgian, I am impressed with what you are doing with your two ‘youngsters’. Personally, I would love to hear more about any ‘bumps’ along the road or any useful tips you found helpful with them. I sent my gelding to the trainer last week and was amazed that he had Peanut pulling the harrow in just 3 or 4 sessions. That would have taken me all year to accomplish..probably longer since I don’t own a harrow;) Anyway, I think you are wrong to assume you aren’t ready to contribute here. There are many of us here just starting out with draft power and I learn something from everyone…even what not to do, lol. Looking forward to hearing more….

    Jennifer.
