Haflinger for Sale

“Milt” is a 9-year-old registered Haflinger gelding. He is a great all-around horse who rides and drives. He has pulled just about everything, including a cart, wagon, plow, cultivator, snowplow, sickle bar mower and an Amish lawn mower. A couple of times he has pulled our lawn tractor out of a ditch.

Milt has also done some logging, and I’ve used him to bring sap in from the woods, carrying it in five gallon buckets buckled to his harness. He had been driven a lot double when I bought him in 2005, but has only worked as a single since.

I have also ridden him quite a bit. He is still green, especially at the canter, but enjoys trail riding and will go out alone. He does get excited in a group of other horses. I started him over fences a few years ago and he really enjoyed jumping.

Milt would do best with an experienced teamster and definitely needs an experienced rider. He is healthy and sound and stands for the farrier, a bath etc. A super easy keeper, he tends to put on weight if he isn’t worked regularly or has too much access to pasture. Last year I didn’t start feeding hay until mid January.

Milt is really a people lover and usually comes running from the pasture when you call him. He is really a super little horse and I have used him extensively around our homestead, but I just have too much on my plate and need to simplify.

Asking price is $2,500 and includes his harness and collar. I am most interested in finding him a good, working home. We are located in Upstate New York, near Ithaca.
