Anyone out there able to sell me a team set of belly backer harness to fit full size Clydes ? nylon or leather. For farm use, so as long as its sound.. dont need the collars, just the hames to fit 25″ to 27″… thanks….
JohnFebruary 19, 2011 at 3:53 pm #65775MarshallParticipantJohn, I can’t help with a harness but I was wondering is that an average size hame for a clyde? I got a set of harnesses that came off from clydes and they had 24-26 collars. That is a bit smaller than most belgians around here. I can’t say I ever saw any clydes around here.

I run with sweat pads and I like the flexiblity to change sizes as they change, so usually go with a slightly larger size. I have a variety of hames but not so many on the 25″ plus size…

I have an old set of d-ring team harnesses that came off a pair of big Brabants. They need some TLC but are still very usable.

PS – have no idea what it would take to get them to you – might be too much to botherFebruary 23, 2011 at 2:46 pm #65774Carl RussellModeratorBradbury Johnson;25172 wrote:Jac-

Not sure about your three abreast question, as I have only run NE d-ring style on my horses. Also, this harness is well used so given the cost might not make sense. If you remain interested let me know and I will take an exact measure of the hames on the harnesses.
-BradFebruary 25, 2011 at 12:20 pm #65777LStoneParticipantHi John. I have run three abreast with 2 D-rings and a belly backer and mixed both types with just a x2 team also. I think it only matters with the neck yoke attachment. The D-ring harness implements a shorter jockey yoke attached to the neck yoke and the belly backer would just attach to the neck yoke with the single combination snap hook on the breast strap. there is a bunch of information on this site about the D-ring harness with pics too. There have been recent threads about the three abreast vs. D-ring harnesses benefits / efficiencies recently and I think the harness type harness mix may only make those types of issues more complicated; but as always in this sport there is a required degree of flexibility.
Probably, and I am learning here too, so someone could correct me for sure. I think that the best of both worlds would be to hitch the double tree of the triple evener accross the pole and use the D-rings there of the with the jockey / neck yokes; and hitch the belly backer off the pole and not connected to a neck yoke at all just to the remaining single tree.

I might be interested in that harness. Could you PM me with a pic and a price? I feel another road trip coming on.
