hi!
a horse cart with the driver sleeping. the horse is probably on the way home. in the past fairly common, but today outside the working animal community this is considered rare.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkrXJaI6IRYlonger vid of horses, cattle and village in general. not quite same, but bares a general similarity to the serbian countryside, where i spent my summers in childhood.

December 20, 2009 at 1:15 am #48116Simple LivingParticipantHere is a video that I found while watching other videos. Pay close attention to the line of draft on the plow at about 3:30. I wish I was able to show them how to correct it. They would get alot more work out of that team in a day/year.

i guess there’s a reason why one man’s leading the horses: i presume each of them owns his own field and they both have only one horse, so they pool in the resources to plow each’s field respectively. you can seed that the horse harness where there are two horses per cars is a lot simpler per animal.
historically this was a common practice in pre-war Yugoslavia..December 25, 2009 at 9:05 pm #48086bivolParticipantHi!
as promised, here are new videos! they are shorter, though, as iv tried to filter out “non-ox” stuff.

January 4, 2010 at 8:08 pm #48114fabianParticipantAfter a long break from work, our cows were finally allowed to get out of their barn and stretch their legs. As seen in their speed, they were looking forward to this day 😉
Both walked pretty well (as usual) and pulled even betteryou’ve got to click on the links and have them run parallel; the first is the music, the second shows our trip

my favourit animal, the water buffalo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=etd2whkVx0I
a real american buffalo, not a water one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17YtZXOme4M
the last vid is training a young water buffalo. now i don’t know what you’ll say, but these guys don’t seem too knowlegable to me, farmers or not.
or maybe i’m biased with western style training, but somehow i don’t see training process in which an animal lies down a productive one.

i’ve found a good video of a man from bosnia plowing alone guiding his oxen from the plow. the lends himself and oxen for plowing for a daily fee. he is the only person in the vicinity who still uses oxen to plow, he lives in the upper Tuzla region, and is busy because people still prefer to have their fields plowed with oxen as opposed to tractors!:eek:here is the vid

MOVING THE HOUSE
this is a stunning footage of yokes of oxen moving a big house up the hill! one video that truly captures the strength of these animals!

I thought it was cool the way they opposed eachother with the peevey hooks to move the logs around. Guess I never had a helper.
