Hope this goes here…We partnered up with good friends of ours at their neighboring farm about a half mile from us to do wagon rides and educational talks on farm implements, the Percheron draft horse, and the history of the farm itself.
Here are Trixie and Smoke Saturday morning getting a quick breakfast before we headed over. It was 07:30 am when we bathed and got them cleaned up, but I don’t think they minded it half as much as I did! BRRRR!!
We borrowed several farm implements from our good friend Bob Brennan as part of the educational tour we had going. Also brought our freight wagon so the general public could get to see how things were moved back them. People also got to get hands on with everything, including the mares:
This is our table in the indoor arena, a brief history of our farm and team, the restoration of our wagon, a waver to sign for wagon rides, and the history of the Percheron and why we chose this particular draft. I also cleaned out a hoof supplement bucket then we filled it with candy for the children that seemed to swarm around and want to touch and ride:
Part of the farm where we were..this is looking off to the right at their outdoor arena where there were dressage, hunters, and jumping demo’s as well as pony rides:

A really cool shot Mark got of the team and I coming around the back of the barn and indoor arena. I love how they are both in step:
And the team after two days of absolute perfect behavior and a willing manner. This was the first time for Trixie to be out in a very public setting with us and Smoke and I have to say, they were top on behavior and manners. Saturday we drove, non stop, 4 and a half hours and Sunday, we drove 5 hrs, with a half hour break for lunch.
We heard back from the farm owner this morning that everyone who came to their farm, the first thing that the public saw was our team coming around the barn and they loved getting to go on a wagon ride and learn the history of the farm. They also loved the hands on with the team, being able to touch, look at, and see a well behaved team being treated with kindness, that was also mentioned. They sure did our farm proud this weekend!! We were asked to do this again with them next year, so we have it on the books…

JeanOctober 8, 2010 at 2:08 am #62563DraftDriverParticipantThanks Jean…not sure if I mentioned it…were doing a church picnic this Saturday for a friend of ours so I am excited about that. Our friend didn’t think that the older folks of the congregation would be interested but he said when he mentioned it they were excited too, as we thought this would be fun for the kids.
