Is there anyone in Vermont, northern New Hampshire or western Maine who makes head yokes?

    Thanks

I never found anybody. I had to go to Nova Scotia. I have an old one, and a blank that I plan on fitting to my current pair. You’re welcome to come and look. I’ll try to look up some contact info on a maker. Carl

You could check with Tim Huppe at Berry Brook Ox Supply. He makes neck yokes, but if there’s anyone in the region who makes head yokes, Tim’s likley to know about it.

well you want to make the scottian design for a neck yoke. this is a bit tricky, because it has to be adjusted to horns. unknown to teamsters in usa actually a majority of head yokes is unadjustable, and they work well. here are some pictures, and unless you want a scottian head yoke and nothing else, use your creativity to make these.

Barry Hiltz at Ross Farm Museum in Nova Scotia is a good source of information about head yokes.
there is also a book called “In Praise of Oxen” that has a lot of good pictures of head yokes.

We have a lot of head yoke makers here, but Droverone is a good guy for that. If we are ever down that way, we will give seminars so you all can make ’em. They are not hard to make. Might be a good idea for a paid trip to see your country.
