Hello,
Just recently found this forum when I was doing a websearch regarding walking plows as I am trying to construct one to use with my “dairy ox” working cow. I have a small amount of experience working with oxen having been an intern on Howell Living History Farm under Rob Flory, I even overlapped living there with Tevis ( Crabapple Farm). I was excited to see that both of them are members here. We have a very small farm here in upstate New York. I’ve been training Daisy to work but have found that training is a lot more challenging than working with a handy team. Another difficulty I’m running up against is getting equiptment for working an ox single. I ended up not working Daisy for a long stretch when she outgrew her yoke and cart as my life had gotten so hectic I couldn’t find the time to build another one. Here is a picture from that earlier period. I’ve finally been getting back into the swing of things and am excited to find this forum. Some things I’d really like some feedback on- fabricating an ox cart with pneumatic tires. I kind of have a fantasy design based on the Barton logging arch that would have a detachable dump cart over the arch to make it a dual purpose vehicle like the dump cart Rob used with Bud and Jake when I was an intern. All of it sized down with shafts for the single ox.
I am also interested in equipment acquisition tricks. I know there is a lot of rusty metal in the barns and hedgerows around here but I’m having trouble getting a look at it. I’ve advertised a lot in Craigslist without much response. Well, I am excited to be a member and hope to learn a lot.

I am also from upstate, the real New York, and I have working cattle. I found an 8″ single horse plow by chance at an auction and I am looking forward to painting, and using it some time this spring perhaps. It is made for a very light horse and I have been told that my yearling working beef mutt co-ed team should be useful with it, if properly contitioned. I have a lead on another plow to investigate when I get home from my winter work, perhaps it is something that would be useful to you. Anyway good to have you here and good luck with your working cow.
