Hi everyone,
We finally bought a team so I thought I’d introduce myself. I’ve been reading the forum for a while but will probably have lots of questions now and hopefully something to offer as well. Charlotte and I started our farm in 2010 when our 1st son was scarcely a year old. We grow vegetables, and are doing 100 CSA shares and a local farmer’s market in Wakefield, Quebec. We’re actually 25 minutes north in Low. A few years ago driving home from the DAP field days in Barton, VT we made a deal that we would have a team on the farm the following autumn. 2 weeks later we discovered that we were having another child, so all talk of horses got put on hold for a while. We have just now acquired a team of 12 & 13 year old half-brother fjord geldings who have spent the last 10 years working on a sheep farm. It’s going to be a gradual process integrating the horses in the garden, but hopefully we’ll be getting the fields tidied up for winter with them, skidding logs in the winter, and then doing most of our field prep in the spring. Feeling lucky to have such a great resource here.

Sounds like you have a good plan to get started—go slow and easy—best not to rush yourself, or most especially the horses. We market garden with Fjords in Vermont (4 acres) plus a small dairy. Happy to be a resource if there is any way we can help.
