Hi I am residing in Wy at the present but plan to move Lord willing to Tennessee. Being that I am from By God west virginia I need to get back to the south. Man I am glad I found this site I have already learned more in a couple of weeks reading old forums and things about sustainable farming that I needed plus the ox section is a wealth of information thanks to carl and howie. But many thanks to those that want to pass this kind of information.

Hello there JimB. Where are you at in Wyoming?
I’ve been around down south and east too and couldn’t wait to get back to Wyoming! I guess it’s what you’re used to. I wasn’t used to people and heat, something they have a lot of back there.
I remember when I spent a couple years in CT. I traveled around the New England area and down to W. Virginia. Had a great time and met some great people, but I sure missed the open spaces of the west.
I’d have to say I liked West Virginia quite a lot as well as the part of Virginia just over the mountain. Had some friends there running a dairy farm. Nice country there too.

J-L I am in the wright/gillette area I have been fortunate enough to travel alot growing up as was my father a preacher and I was in the military and drove a truck for a few yrs. I loved going new places. I grew up mostly in Ks that is a great state kinda like wy but the people are a bit different out here. I also lived in west virginia I absolutly loved I would go back but work there is slim because of political decisions the people have made. I also lived in virginia, NC, SC,PA been to CT,maine RI,NH loved it in the north east to expensive to live and to close to newyork city God bless those that can stomache that place.

Jason I do appreciate the gesture yes there is lots of good land, good people (I miss them the most) kind and considerate mostly. I will be looking for work havent decided to persue logging just yet, I am lining up to farm though. Well my fiances uncle has 2 saw mills in tenn. and wants to reopen 1 this yr. I figure with the way the modern loggers has screwed and tore up the land of people down there by me coming in with horses and oxen only I will be able to maybe log some of that property again and do it with a little profit in small sections without the need of 100+ acres of trees.
I will be looking for a good team when I get there I will probably go to the amish people of etheridge tenn. to get a decent pair. Being I was raised strict mennonite I feel more comfortable to deal with them although like anyone they will get you if you let them.

The part of Wyoming you’re in is quite a lot different than the western part of the state for sure.

J-L yes you are very right there are alot of good people in wy. When I first got here 3 yrs ago I started in rawlins then to laramie then to wheatland then to wright I have throughly enjoyed living here and do have mant friends. I will keep you all informed well because there is so much good information being passed around here. Plus I will need help with info on working oxen.
