Well since I posted below in the equipment asking for advice guess I better introduce myself here. My name is Kat Moore, my husband and I have a small 10 acre farm in Deer Park WA. We have four drafts and a pony… all drive or are in training to drive….. I also ride them too. (except our 5 year old rides the pony)… I am a stay at home mom and artist…My husband is a retired school teacher and stained glass craftsmen….. has been volunteering in Hattie’s kindergarten class on fridays….Yes we are older first time parents… married 7 years ago… and have a 5 year old. I am 45 and monte is 65. So there is alot of age gap in our family! hehe. But we appreciate that alot. I am more the horse person who does the horse stuff…Monte is familiar with it as he knows Doc Hammil in montana and has been part of a few of his workshops…I have been into drafts since I got my first one… my belgian mare who is now 12… when she was a weanling.I started her like I used to do my 4-H horses way back when… and we learned as we went. Chafin farm in OR taught me to team drive when I lived there… then I got married and moved to eastern WA and here I am kinda on my own. We have Kaesi… 12 year old belgian mare.. I ride and drive her .. she does everything…except I have not had her in parades or town like situations….then we also have Duelly who is a 6 year old black Shire we have raise since he was 2 mos old and orphaned…. We have Slim.. who we wen to Ohio to get two summers back … he is turning 3 this summer… and bay clyde… my “dream” boy… and we just got Dan the belgian from our neighbors who were caretakers of the ketchikan trolley horses up in Alaska. Dan was one of thier horses…. and the company folded this year….. so all the horses were dispersed. He had some hoof injuries so we took him to fix him up and got him for a song. He is HUGE at 18.1H… but a lover and a doll…he is about 12 they believe. I Have started four other drafts to drive and ride… but dont have them at this time… they have been sold to great homes…and one… my dream horse bay shire… has passed on but I had him for the 3 of his 4 years of life. he had a malformed internal system and only one kidney… when his kidney quit working… we had to let him go over the rainbow bridge…..so I searched for 4 long years and found another dream horse… our bay clyde boy Slim.
I also found Odo the pony… he is half shetland and half min… at 40 inches tall… he is my little sport car to drive. He is a blast… and he will be 17 this summer. but you cant see the age on him a bit. Hattie is learning to ride him… but also rides my belgian mare in the corral. She is a bit Slower than the pony! hehe.
we mostly play with the horses and i drive and ride alot…drag the hay field each spring and fall and drag the paddocks mostly… we bought a manure spreader last summer so hope to get to use that once I have a team I can work….that is solid enough….mostly I am a mom and take care of the farm… with chickens and sheep…and a llama….. we have 6 katahdin sheep and my hubby is working his young border collie hoping to learn to trial this year. they are in training and taking lessons all the time. Its fun for him as he has always had a border collie as a companion and its a magical dance they do together to move those sheep.( sheep are dumb) thats why you chase them with dogs!
Anyhow in our spare time we try to do art projects and stuff and want to sell them this upcoming summer out of our restored milk wagon… that i want to paint up and detail…. Monte does all kinds of glass painting and windows…. and also some lino block prints and pastels……. I do acrylic paintings portraits and lots of horse and wildlife art…. a little of everything…. lots of folks know me for the real horses weigh a ton draft horse shirts I developed a few years back. Hubby and I met at the small farmers journal auction… we were both vendors there… in booths next to each other… so it was great spending time with someone with similiar interests. and here we are 7 years later. I added some photos in my post below in equipment… so will not do the same her but here is a couple… one our pride… is our milk wagon…
the milk wagon before and after… my husbands 10 year dream from the time he bought it… until Dave Wilcox in S dakota was able to finish it… and my hot buy on the manure spreader that works beautifully!…our daughter Hattie last summer with Odo the pony… and Me and Hattie in the cart with Kaesi in the last photo..
Some of you may know us as True Imagery Studio… you can look that up online to see our artwork… but be warned.. I have not updated it in a year or so!! ( more on my list to do than there is time in the day! ehhe) Looking forward to learning alot here… and getting to know all of you guys!December 29, 2011 at 3:55 pm #71149Michel BoulayParticipantWelcome on Dapnet Kat, great people here.
