Does anyone have any experience with the horse powered treadmills made in Kentucky by the Athens Enterprise folks? I’m thinking seriously about getting one.
August 27, 2010 at 12:11 am #61828Scott GParticipantTalk to Jason R. He has a wood splitter hooked up to one.
August 27, 2010 at 4:18 am #61832bburgessParticipantI don’t have any experience using one, but I have watched them operate on several occasions. I’ve been pretty impressed by the way they work. I really like the treadmill powered log splitter that Jason has on consignment from them right now. It’s a very simple mechanism that should hold up for many years of work. I live about 20 minutes from the guys at Athens enterprise, and they are very nice people to talk to. Jason should be able to tell you more about it, or give you their contact information.
Good luck,
Ben
August 27, 2010 at 10:13 am #61825Gabe AyersKeymasterHey BeCorson,
We’ll have a few of these running at SDAD. The folks are the Weaver’s and they use them for all sorts of applications. Maybe you’d like to come down and have a look. What would you like to know about them. There contact number is:
606-787-0266
Or that is Tim Weaver’s number, the elder son of Ammon that manufactures treadmills in Liberty, Ky. He can give you the number to the shop, I can’t seem to find it at the moment.
Looking forward to seeing folks at SDAD.
Best to all,
August 27, 2010 at 2:21 pm #61834gwpokyParticipantI am also interested in more information on these treadmills I think they could fit in very well for us. I have heard they cost upwards of 11,000 dollars which is out of our budget at the moment. Any information, pics, or videos would be great.
Thank you

That price sounds too high. If I remember correctly, the treadmill alone is somewhere in the neighborhood of $5,000.00. I will double check, and see if I can come up with some more info. Although, the best way to find out would be to give the Weavers a call at the phone number that Jason gave. They would be very happy to talk to you. I’m not sure if they have any literature about them, but they put on a great demonstration last year at the Southern Draft Animal Days. They’ll be there again this year. If you’re able to make it down, it would be worth your time.

August 31, 2010 at 4:57 am #61826Gabe AyersKeymasterAround $3500 for the treadmill as a stand alone unit. Will do allot of work.
Can be adapted to many uses.
September 1, 2010 at 12:03 pm #61835gwpokyParticipantThanks Jason for the pic and price, that sounds allot more doable than 11000. What are the working r.p.m’s of this unit?
Thanks
September 5, 2010 at 12:20 pm #61827Gabe AyersKeymasterNot sure about the pto rpm at an average walking speed. We will try to find out more about this as we are going to have to supply horses for the display as SDAD, so we will do some experimenting in the next couple of weeks.
September 5, 2010 at 4:14 pm #61836gwpokyParticipantJason, that sounds great keep us updated.
Thank You,
September 17, 2010 at 9:00 pm #61829becorsonParticipantthanks for all the replies and input, it all sounds like a treadmill would be a good investment, espeically for someone like me who has horses that need exercise!
I think i’ll call the folks at Athens and see if they will let me put one on “lay away” . by the time i have it paid for, maybe i’ll figure out how to hook it up to a log splitter or something. (I’m not very clever when it comes to mechanical things but i know folks who are.)October 29, 2011 at 7:33 am #61830kiwiloggrParticipantHas anyone generated power with one of these treadmlls
October 30, 2011 at 12:56 am #61837JayParticipantI have bought a 2 horse treadmill from Athens this summer and have used it for powering a threshing machine threshing oats. I am very pleased with the way it worked. It is a small wooded thresher – drum about 20 inches wide. We couldn’t put big lumps of oats in, but it handled powering the process quite well. I plan to build a small “power-house” for it and be able to run an air compressor for my shop, back-up generator, hydraulic pump and more with the treadmill. We have a gear box to increase the speed to small electric motor speed which makes it very adaptable. I am very well impressed with the quality and ruggedness of the construction. I keep you posted as we do more with it. Jay
