hi!
does anyone know some books about step-by-step teaching a horse to pull a plow and also about horse farming… how to handle plow-horses, etc.
thanks!

Another source for informaition on plowing would be farmer browns plow shop. you can google it and acess his website. The lynn Miller books are available from small farmers journal.
Best of luck on your quest.

The subtitle is: “A Guide to the Care & Use of Work Horses & mules”… and pretty much covers all the basics, although I think that Lynn Miller’s books offer more detail, they also tend to cost more. Maurice did (still does?) put out the Draft Horse Journal. I don’t know if it’s been updated or revised, but my issue is copywritten 1977, and sold for $10.95 new (careful so that on eBay you don’t end up paying more than the original price!).
Actually, Lynn will tell you himself that they both “stoled” from the same old USDA books & pamphlets from ‘back when’ –>, which, if you can find them, are very enlightening, if adjusted for modern differences. Good luck!January 13, 2009 at 1:31 pm #49054Rob FLoryParticipantHi Bivol,
A linguistic note: When we say pulling over here, it refers to weight pulling competitions. Your inquiry may get more attention if you ask about training horses for work or training horses for plowing.
Enjoy your quest.Rob
