I have been cutting the ironwood out of my woods. Thought I would haul it out for firewood and used the Hafflingers. Hope the link comes through so you can see it.

September 5, 2010 at 1:38 pm #62005Donn HewesKeymasterThat is working nicely. Looks like you might have some tongues in there. Just a thought.

September 5, 2010 at 2:33 pm #62008Rod44ParticipantOh, now I get it. Saw out some tongues. I don’t know how ironwood would work? It is very heavy wood and would make a very heavy tongue. I will ask my Amish friends if they ever use it. I have enough for a lot of them!!!
September 5, 2010 at 5:00 pm #62006Donn HewesKeymasterIs that the same as the Hop Horn beam? Little tree with scaley bark? I made the tongue for my PTO cart with a chain saw in about fifteen minutes. I would have used a power planer but it seems to be not working at the moment.

I cut some up in lenghts and let them set in the woods a year or two. One day I got a few to buils a deer stand. Tried to drive a spike into one and it went in 1/2 inch and bent right over. I chunked up those logs I dragged out yesterday this morning. If I would wait till next year the saw just bounces on it trying to get through it.
