We’ve reached the point of rebuilding our farm where we want to have extra hands on deck through the summer. We are confidently making hay, pulling timber and firewood, and gardening for the homestead. Next year we will expand our garden and market some of our produce, try to produce 1500+ bales of hay, and harvest the timbers needed for a large horse barn. We’ll be beginning the timber framing work on that barn as well. We also raise pigs and cattle- maybe 10-12 pigs and 6-8 cattle next year.
We do most of our work with a team of percheron horses who would be great for interns to learn to drive with. We are open to bringing other horse teams on the farm and can support that if the right co-farmer type person comes along. We also have access to 3 Kubota tractors, backhoes, a bulldozer, and other machinery.
Housing will either be a bedroom in the main house with shared kitchen and bath or it will be in another structure on the farm with its own kitchen, bath, 2 BR and wood stove.
Compensation is TBD. We will either trade training in exchange for work. We are also interested in a co-farmer type of arrangement where someone could run a semi-independent farm business here. We will have some money for paid labor as well.
Our farm was the site of the DAPNet Annual Gathering in 2016 and we will certainly host more events in the future.

I’ll post this up at DAPFD and other places as well.August 28, 2017 at 1:56 pm #90591LongViewFarmParticipantHere’s a picture looking down to the farmstead. The renovation has continued from here. It’s a beautiful place.
