At $6600 (w/ shipping to my area), even with the original gas engine, that Northern Tool item seems too much for just turning compost… I wonder about somehow modifying one of those old hay hooks/spears – drop, grab & then moving it on it’s track & dropping? Way beyond my abilities to engineer, but just a thought I’ve had for a while…

I think a light excavator is a multi use item, turn compost, load compost, clean ditches, dig footings, dig and load gravel etc. On a large farm there would be a specialist machine – loader/backhoe but the price new is $70,000+ new. I like the mini excavator for a small one man farm, you have only one back!!
