December 10-11, 2011
We are having a two day workshop where we will do some logging, build a log scoot and mill some lumber.
It is going to be at The Farm School in Athol Ma
here is the registration form. We would like to get his back as soon as possible, to be sure we have enough food.
This is going to be a great time!
November 9, 2011 at 1:30 am #70147LongViewFarmParticipantCan I come down Saturday after giving rides all day a a tree farm and stay over to Sunday to participate with my two belgian/ morgan brothers, age 6 and 8 and very stable? I will see if I can fit my scoot too, as it may have new shoes by then.

I don’t see why not. Have you contacted Jean or Brad Teeter? Sounds like its gonna be a good crowd!
November 11, 2011 at 1:48 am #70139bradleyModeratorJay, definitely come on down whenever you get a chance, there should be plenty of room and we’ll keep some supper warm for you.
November 14, 2011 at 4:21 pm #70148LongViewFarmParticipantBrad, you’ve got mail.
November 15, 2011 at 1:41 pm #70123dominiquer60ModeratorIs there anyone that is planning to attend this event that would like to take some pictures that we can use on our website and/or be willing to write an article about the event for our upcoming January DAPNet Newsletter? One need not have the skills of a NY Times best sellers list author, just the will and time to do it:) Little things like this can be a really huge help.
Thanks in advance,
November 15, 2011 at 3:01 pm #70087Scott GParticipantJust found out yesterday that Southwest has a non-stop flight from Denver to Manchester. Manchester looks pretty close to Athol. Hmm…
November 15, 2011 at 3:11 pm #70101JeanParticipantSaturday
8:00-9:00 or 10:00 breakfast and people coming in
10:00 Head out to the woods, bringing sawlogs to mill and cordwood to landing
Milling lumber for scoot
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Back out to woods
Felling demo, if Carl or Brad Johnson wouldn’t mind if there is interest. I will try to have lots of wood down but maybe not enough for all the teams, there will still need to be a chopper I think to buck, etc.
Start building scoot in heated workshop
Keep milling if there is interest.
3:00 Snacks? or just a constant pot of coffee or hot cider and donuts.
4:30 Chores
5:30 Supper
6:30 Hopefully, presentation by Carl on timber harvest Co-op.
Sunday
6:00 Chores
7:30 Breakfast
8:30 Off to woods
Scoot building
Milling
12:00 Lunch and pack up.

Hope you can make it Scott. Manchester is pretty close to Athol. At least country close, maybe for a city person it would seem far away.
November 15, 2011 at 3:55 pm #70088Scott GParticipantJean, just checked Google Map. 1h40m…lol! I drive almost twice that long just to get to the airport on this end! I checked and can get a rental car for $13/day unlimited mileage…
Boston is the exact same driving time. Southwest Airlines $84 each way. Thats almost 10hours of flight time for $168. I don’t know how they can do it, but they do… Hope the price includes a pressurized cabin…
November 15, 2011 at 10:34 pm #70140bradleyModeratorScott, it would be so great if you could make it out east. I don’t mean to try and put you to work if you make it, but that presentation you did at mofga last winter was pretty cool and I thought maybe if there was time Saturday night??? But only if it is easy on you.
November 15, 2011 at 11:47 pm #70089Scott GParticipantI can always talk about horses &/or forestry, Bradley. 🙂 However, with only one night it might be better to have a roundtable/panel format so that we could address the ‘burning’ issues on most folks minds. Regardless, I’ll have my laptop and everything in it if I make it out there.
November 15, 2011 at 11:54 pm #70082Mark CowdreyParticipantScott,
If there is no price difference (or even if there was) I would fly into MHT. If I never go to Logan (Boston) again it will be too soon.
MarkNovember 16, 2011 at 12:05 am #70090Scott GParticipantLogan is that much of a headache ‘eh, Mark? Currently, $40rt difference between the two…
November 16, 2011 at 12:50 am #70083Mark CowdreyParticipantWell that’s my country bumpkin take on it. If you are used to cities & getting in and out of big airports it’s probably fine. But my preference is definitely Manchester & if I had the $40 to spend I would spend it. Just my opinion.
