MD mower info?

While replacing the drag link on my #9 mower and needing to look up which hole to put the pins in for a standard lift w/ 6 foot bar, I started to wonder about the vertical lift setup that came on some of these mowers. After some reading it seems to me that the vertical lift option was only available on machines set up with the 4 or 5 foot bars and not the 6 or 7’s. The vert lift also came with the automatic gear disengage mechanism (linkage that runs underneath the axle housing from the gearbox to the bar side of the machine).

Am I misinterpreting some of what I’m reading in the manual?

Also – will the MA 139 knife head (I think that’s the number) work in place of the normal MA 999?
