Sorry to say I just removed any sign of BachelorFarmer from the DAP site. It was his own personal request that had nothing to do with his experience here, and everything to do with personal internet privacy issues.

It is a shame, he had contributed a lot to discussions here, and he definitely acknowledged that he didn’t think DAP was causing any direct problems for him, but he just needed to do this.

That is a shame, but privacy is always an issue on the internet. I have simply decided that I will conduct my internet activities as I would conduct myself in a public place. If I don’t want the whole world knowing something, I don’t say it.

Privacy on the net also sometimes gets worried about a little too much IMO. People are horrified to see that if they Google their phone number, their name and address comes up. They don’t take into account that that info was already in a public phone book. Most things that can be known about someone on the net can be known by digging offline, it’s mainly that the internet is easier and faster.

I’m not much of a poster here yet. I mostly read and learn.. But there is a bit of fear mongering of privacy online for good reason. The problem lies in people who give too much information out. so I agree with Phil, if you won’t give or publish that information in your local town = don’t post it online.

Just so you know, his privacy concerns included internet, and he is reacting to real issues that he is suffering from. He feels he needs to clean his slate, and star over.

BachelorFarmer, If you still come to read or check in, I will miss your posts. It’s a sad day when people can’t be themselves. I wish you all the best in all you do! Good luck my friend.

I agree – it’s unfortunate that BF felt he had to drop out. I must admit that I was a bit confused about privacy concerns until I read about a “debate” regarding our local food co-op. The governing board voted to use some tracking software to “manage their data for tax purposes”. One of the board members for whom I have great respect (he voted against using the software) wrote an editorial as to why this is an issue of concern. Just because the entity collecting the data has no “ulterior motives” does not mean that the data won’t be accessed and used by someone or agency that does.
One example cited in the editorial is posted at this site: http://www.privacyrights.org OR http://www.cnet.com/8301-13739_1-9812473-46.html

It involves data mining of food purchases at a co-op looking for those that bought “middle eastern” food – to identify potential terrorist suspects.

BF – I regret your leaving but do understand better now. I hope you can lurk and still enjoy this site as we have enjoyed your posts.
