I just got back from a trip to France that included the usually tourist stops and a few other finds that were far off the beaten path.

I thought you folks would like to see these plows. The first is a double low like I’ve never seen before. It allows you to switch the direction of your folded earth, a lot like a hill plow, but is very different in design. After a found the plow I found postcards showing it in action, but I wasn’t smart enough to send one of those to myself. I think this plow would work best on the sandy, flat soils that I saw all over the Loire valley. Does anybody know more about this type of plow?

The second plow has been repurposed, but you can see the interesting offset of the handles and the bottom. It was used for cultivating grapes, and set up so the horse and teamster could walk in the lane and plow near the vines. It looks like the bottom is long to support the frame. Does anyone else know more about this type of setup?

    Jay
