I have been working on some fun projects this spring. I have started an email list with NOFA NY certified vegetable farms that are interested in converting to animal power. There are some big farms involved and it hopefully will evolve to a workshop this fall.
I got two new horses from Karl Pfister, in Vermont, a couple weeks ago. They are a mother / son team of black Percherons and I am having a lot of fun settling them on our farm for work this summer. The gelding has never really worked and we are starting from scratch. Probably the prettiest horses I have had and maybe too good for me. I even had a nice visit with Rod Hewitt, and Jay bailey on my trip to Vt.
Last week I had my official mid life crisis, so naturally I bought a DONKEY. I just bought a mammoth jack in Kentucky. I didn’t even go to see him but I did have him vet checked. He is three this summer and already 15.1 hands. Unfortunately he is not going to live here. I have an Amish partner that will keep him and handle the breeding of mares for us.
I have just been starting the mower business and have two mowers to work on right now. A single horse mower and a center cut mower. Anyone want to take a ride to Kentucky? I will post some pictures when I get some.
