We’ve been fairly cold all week (-9 to-14 every morning) with a bad windy and cold week before. Today started cold at 9 below, but was gorgeous with a high of maybe 15, not a whisper of wind. The crystal clear kind of weather you get in the 7000′ altitude when I can see the high Uinta mountains clear and beautiful and when you get on the hill and can see the Wind River range clearly even though it takes 2.5 hours to drive to them.

Been feeding about 85 cows plus the 25 or 30 calves for a few weeks now. Teams are getting hard now and it won’t be too hard on them when we start making the big circle. Bobsledding has been great. The snow is slidin good and creek crossings froze over so we can get around good.

My fall feed held longer than expected and with the hay I bought I am certain to make it ’til mid May with my hay pile. Haven’t started feeding the main herd yet, but will start in a day or two. Takes a load off my mind for sure, just knowing we’ll have enough feed.

Have been working with my two yr old colt I call Goose. After a week of ground work and single driving each, we hooked him to the sleigh yesterday and today. Nice colt. Smart and level headed. Surprisingly so for such a broncy acting little bugger. He is mostly Perch, but I believe he has some Shire in his blood too.

All the kids home helping on the ranch makes it seem festive and makes you appreciate this life even more.
