I just finished a couple days of plowing. Since I was using a two bottom trailer plow and a four up hitch it was really two days of setting up eveners, lines, and plow adjustments with a little plowing thrown in. Did I mention learning to drive four up? Actually I have done it a few times before, but it takes so much effort and concentration compared to driving a team abreast. A lot of fun.
On my last three trips around I planted a row of potatoes with each pass, just pushed them in beside the furrow and covered them up. We will see how they do. The evener I use is home made, (I did not make it). It would be easy to make one like it. I put it on my standard fore cart, and a chain runs under the tongue to the leaders. It works very well. You can see a few pictures here. There is also a picture of the three horse attachment I made for my walking plow, even though I didn’t take it out of the barn.
While I can be as romantic about the walking plow as any one, I must say the trailer plow is awesome. Once the plow wheel is in the furrow you are making good furrows no matter that you are still teaching the furrow horse to stay in the furrow. Also I could plow as shallow as I want. Last fall I plowed a deeper. Sunday I plowed quiet shallow, and today I went a little deeper to plant the spuds. Well, funs over, back to spreading compost. I have spread about forty loads and will probably spread about forty more. Donn

Sorry I didn’t respond to your email, my computer died and just got it back today. Pictures look good. It happens that the same day you said you were going to plow was our only chance to practice with our six horse hitch before the plow weekend. Our weather was iffy so we had only 8 teams Saturday and 12 on Sunday. All the die hards showed up and we plowed 14 acres last weekend. We got alot done and everyone did a good job. The six worked well and the horses were hard from plowing most of April so they were able to turn a lot of ground with two bottoms. We used our 2 1/2 yr old filly on Saturday and she was a trooper.May 30, 2008 at 2:44 am #46609July 8, 2008 at 6:44 am #46610cxb100Participantrunescape gold runescape gold
