We have run a farm organically for over 35 years. We have driven a few horses, more ponies for pleasure. Last year my daughter traded her trained goat for a pony, he is very gentle and strong, but only 10.5 hands. I trained him to pull a cart, once we started I thought what the heck; and have him now pulling a sled.
Now, this isn’t a fancy kind of sled, I started with just the tugs and a plastic kids sled. He did very well with that so I hitched him to the cart and put the 4 wheeler tilt trailer behind that and have my daughter driving while i feed hay.
My dd is autistic; but loves horses. She has a full size horse as well, but quite frankly i am too nervous to try and train him to pull. I would love to find another pony that is dead broke for a team; but can’t see that as too likely.
We have a farm share; which is a community farm where other families come out and milk the cows, garden, eggs and meat birds etc.
