Because I’m a greenhorn relating to the neck yoke, I regard, read and look everything I can get about it (at last I got the video “training oxen” for christmas )
After all what I have learned it’s my opinion that in these vids:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xegHCieLSts

the bows are too wide and too deep so that the yoke slips to high on the withers.
Is my opinion right or do I err ?

The staple should be down closer to 1/2-2/3 the depth of the bow. In the way this is set up the yoke slides back and the animals are pushing against the bows. If adjusted correctly the yoke should tip forward enough so that the bows are only holding the yoke on the neck, and the animals are pushing upward against the bottom of the yoke on the bearing surface. I’m not sure that the problem is all in the bows, but they are definitely too low, and the draft doesn’t help any.
